2024 BOLD PREDICTIONS
As the curtains fall on the thrilling 2023 season, we eagerly gear up to embark on yet another alluring journey through the realm of combat sports. The past year saw empires rise and storied legacies draw their final breaths, injecting our veins with unbridled adrenaline for a new chapter of unpredictable prizefighting. Within the confines of the cage, every contender wields that potent ‘puncher’s chance,’ kindling our suspense for what lies ahead. Join me as we peer through the crystal ball, unveiling five compelling predictions set to define the landscape of the 2024 calendar year.
GLOBAL EXPANSION
In light of the promising start to the 2024 tour, my prediction is that Union Grand Prix is poised for a groundbreaking global expansion. I believe this powerhouse organization strategically ventures into untapped markets, potentially exploring events all throughout Asia, Europe, South America, and beyond. With an eye on capturing the soaring worldwide appeal for MMA, Union Grand Prix is set to unearth raw talents from diverse corners of the globe. Their mission? To assemble a diverse roster that speaks to and captivates the hearts of fans worldwide.
MORE CROSS-PROMOTIONAL EVENTS
I think we’re ready to see a revolutionary move from Union Grand Prix as they could potentially step into the realm of cross-promotional events, likely teaming up with non-MMA entities to craft innovative collaborations. Drawing inspiration from the success witnessed in Ryūjin FC, this strategic maneuver could be the key to breaking boundaries and drawing in a diverse spectrum of audiences. The fusion of different combat sports might just be the spark that sets the MMA universe ablaze with fresh energy and unprecedented excitement.
RISE OF NEW CHAMPIONS
I can envision a seismic shift in the Championship hierarchy as rising stars ascend to claim titles across different divisions, injecting a wave of fresh rivalries and unpredictability into the MMA landscape. While the current Champions seem poised to maintain their grip, the upcoming year holds the promise of unforeseen twists and turns. We can anticipate thrilling battles between established veterans and hungry newcomers vying to etch their names in the history books and redefine the essence of championship glory.
LEGENDS RETURN
At some point in the new year, we should prepare ourselves for the ultimate blast from the past as revered MMA legends could potentially stage comebacks or make one final appearance within the Union Grand Prix arena. Their anticipated returns would certainly promise a euphoric nostalgia hit while also serving as monumental draws for special events. The attention these revered figures command would ignite the passion of yesteryear amongst the die-hard fans while educating the new fan base, marking these events as historic moments in MMA.
A NEW WEIGHT CLASS IS INTRODUCED
My prediction remains steadfast from last year. I believe we will see an introduction of a new weight class within Union Grand Prix this year. While last year didn’t witness this shift, my belief persists, especially in the introduction of a 170-pound Welterweight division. Such an addition could bridge the considerable gap between Lightweight (155) and Middleweight (185), offering fighters a more gradual progression to bulk or cut. Furthermore, an additional 145-pound Featherweight division might be in the cards, easing the leap between Bantamweight (135) and Lightweight (155). Union GP has a penchant for hosting tournaments, and this year could mark the inauguration of a new division through a thrilling Grand Prix, stirring up excitement as contenders vie for the inaugural championship in a new weight class.
