STRENGTHS
+ Wrestling and Grappling: He is renowned for his exceptional wrestling and grappling skills. His ability to control opponents on the ground, secure takedowns, and maintain dominant positions make him nearly unstoppable. His relentless pressure and ground-and-pound tactics overwhelm many of his past opponents.
+ Cardio and Stamina: His conditioning is another significant strength. He maintains a high pace throughout his fights without showing signs of fatigue. This allows him to sustain pressure on his opponents and exploit any weaknesses that emerge as the fight progresses.
+ Strength and Physicality: He is exceptionally strong and physically imposing for the welterweight division. His strength allows him to overpower many of his opponents, both in clinches and on the ground, contributing to his effectiveness in controlling the pace and position of the fight.
WEAKNESSES
– Striking Defense: His striking defense is often seen as a vulnerability. While his offensive striking shows improvement over time, he is sometimes susceptible to strikes from more technically skilled stand-up fighters, which could put him at a disadvantage in stand-up exchanges.
– Submission Defense: Although a strong grappler, he occasionally shows susceptibility to submissions, particularly from high-level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners. This is evident in some of his losses, where he was caught in submissions despite his dominant wrestling base.
– Adaptability and Experience: Still a young student to the game, he’s still primarily a wrestler with basic striking, sometimes struggling against more well-rounded fighters who could neutralize his strengths and exploit his weaknesses.

BACKSTORY
Mustafa Al-Masri, a name that resonates with amateur wrestling enthusiasts around the world, hails from the city of Cairo, Egypt. From a young age, Mustafa showed a natural ability for wrestling, and his relentless work ethic and raw talent soon saw him rise through the ranks. His dedication paid off when he became the 77kg Pan American Greco-Roman Bronze Medalist. This achievement put him on the map and made him a celebrated athlete in Egypt. However, his career faced an unexpected hurdle.
Corruption within the Egyptian Wrestling Federation cast a dark shadow over the sport he loved. Frustrated and disillusioned by the politics and lack of integrity, Mustafa made the tough decision to retire from wrestling at the peak of his career. Seeking new opportunities and a fresh start, Mustafa moved to America. There, he decided to channel his athletic prowess into boxing. This shift in focus led him to cross paths with Bruce D’Angelo, a seasoned coach with a keen eye for talent. D’Angelo saw immense potential in Mustafa and took him under his wing.
Under D’Angelo’s mentorship, Mustafa honed his striking skills and developed a solid foundation in boxing. However, as fate would have it, D’Angelo eventually retired from coaching. Mustafa’s journey took another turn when Gauge Lattimore, a former MMA champion and D’Angelo’s protégé, took over as his coach. Lattimore’s extensive experience and similar transitioning from boxing to MMA inspired Mustafa to explore the sport.
With Lattimore’s guidance, Mustafa Al-Masri began his move into the world of MMA. His background in Greco-Roman wrestling gave him a significant edge in grappling, while his training in boxing under D’Angelo provided him with a solid striking base. Mustafa’s blend of wrestling prowess, relentless work ethic, and newly acquired striking skills made him a promising contender in the MMA arena.
As Mustafa’s reputation grew, so did the interest from major promotions. His impressive performances and potential caught the eye of Union GP, one of the global powerhouses in mixed martial arts. Recognizing the unique combination of skills and determination that Mustafa brought to the table, Union GP offered him a contract. Signing with Union GP marked a significant milestone in Mustafa Al-Masri’s career, providing him with the platform to showcase his talents on the world stage and compete against the best fighters in the world.
