UGP 54: WEBB vs JAMES LIVE!

ROUND ONE: Clusters of fans are beginning to file in while the diehard crowd that’s been celebrating all day at the Smoothie King Center rumbles with excitement and anticipation as the debuting Bantamweights, Ito Yoshito and Jalen Briggs, step into the Union GP cage, ready to do battle. You can feel the intensity among these two hungry prospects as the opening round begins. From the get-go, Briggs showcases his aggressiveness and striking prowess. Lightning-quick calf kicks chop away at Yoshito’s legs, while Yoshito displays his toughness by absorbing them with minimal reaction. Yoshito maintains a cautious distance as a result, looking for an opening to unleash his powerful punches. Briggs, bobbing in and out, dominates the stand-up, landing a series of crisp combinations that echo through the arena. As the  round progresses, Yoshito adjusts his strategy. He begins to mix in his Judo, attempting to close the distance and take Briggs down. It’s a risky move, considering Yoshito’s lack of submission proficiency, but it’s an area he feels confident he’s superior in and he’s willing to gamble. Briggs, though inexperienced in wrestling, manages to sprawl effectively, denying Yoshito’s takedown attempts. The round concludes with Briggs securing the edge in the striking department, leaving the judges with a tough call to make.

ROUND TWO: Yoshito opens the second round with a different approach. He feints his punches, seamlessly transitioning into Judo throws that catch Briggs off guard. The crowd erupts as Yoshito pushes the pace and keeps Briggs on his back foot. Briggs, however, doesn’t back down, countering with flashy kicks and maintaining his composure. Midway through the round, Yoshito finds success with a powerful overhand right that stuns Briggs. Sensing an opportunity, Yoshito closes the distance and initiates a clinch. The audience holds its breath as Yoshito attempts a Judo throw, successfully taking Briggs to the canvas. Yoshito opts for the ground-and-pound, unleashing a barrage of punches. The round ends with Yoshito turning the tide, showcasing a blend of striking and grappling that keeps Briggs guessing.

ROUND THREE: The final round kicks off with both fighters visibly fatigued but very much determined. Briggs, fully aware of the potential of an even scorecard at this point, sharpens his striking, showcasing the heart and conditioning that got him to the big stage. Yoshito, refusing to wilt, responds in kind with calculated aggression. The exchanges are fierce, with both fighters landing significant strikes in several heated stages. In the closing moments, Briggs digs deep, unleashing a relentless flurry of strikes that puts Yoshito on the defensive. The crowd roars as Briggs, showing composure and maturity beyond his years, controls the pace until the final horn. The Smoothie King Center erupts in applause as the two debuting fighters leave a lasting impression on their performances. After some cleanup time with the ringside physicians, both fighters meet in the center to hear their fate.

Yan eventually responds with lightning-quick kicks, attempting to close the distance. Saetang remains composed, countering effectively and avoiding any significant damage. As the round progresses, Yan struggles to navigate through the traffic Saetang presents. Her kicks, while powerful, lack accuracy as Saetang dances in and out of range. The stream fades in from darkness as the roar of the crowd amplifies. The feed starts with a cinematic aerial view of the Smoothie King Center exterior, bathed in a dazzling array of lights. Suddenly, a high-tech drone camera swoops into view, zipping through the night sky with precision and speed. The crowd below can be seen, eagerly waiting to witness the epic showdown about to unfold.

As the drone camera continues its aerial journey, it dives down toward the entrance of the arena. Here, the stage setting is nothing short of spectacular. The main stage entrance is adorned with towering screens displaying incredible fighter highlights. Pyrotechnics are primed, ready to unleash fiery explosions, and a cascade of dazzling lights dance in rhythm with the heart-pounding music.

The drone continues its flight, capturing the electrifying energy of the crowd below. The fans, dressed in a sea of colors, wave flags and banners, their excitement reaching a fever pitch. The drone camera hovers for a moment, capturing the anticipation, before the arena erupts with pyrotechnics and dazzling lights one final time, setting the tone for the thrilling event about to begin. As the grand finale wraps up, the feed pops up the poster for tonight’s card.

The drone camera, with a graceful turn, moves toward the cageside area, where the commentary team awaits their cue. The camera smoothly pans in to reveal the dynamic duo, Bodie Sullivan and the legendary Hall of Famer, Byron McCall, standing at their cageside booth.

Bodie and Byron exchange knowing nods, their excitement evident as they prepare to provide their insightful commentary on the wars about to be waged.

BODIE SULLIVAN: “Ladies and gentlemen, we are live exclusively on the Battleground Network here at the Smoothie King Center in THE BIG EASY — New Orleans, Louisiana, and the octagon is officially open for business for UGP 54: WEBB versus JAMES! Hello everyone and thank you for tuning in to this epic night as we help kickoff the Mardi Gras celebrations! I am Bodie Sullivan and joining me is the Hall of Fame Legend and the voice of all combat sports, “The Last Call” Byron McCall! B-Mac, it’s great to be back here in NOLA, especially this time of year!”

BYRON McCALL: “No question, Bodie! We’ve already witnessed some banger fights as the prelims certainly delivered on their end, and now we gear up for what is sure to be a spectacular main card!”

BODIE SULLIVAN: “Two Championship bouts sit on top of the bill, but before we get to that, let’s break down the undercard. Let’s start with our first two bouts as they both share essentially the same stakes and their next fight could very well be dependent on their performance here tonight. Our kickoff bout features the Ryūjin FC Title Challenger Deebo Briggs taking on the former Everest MMA Welterweight Champion and former Union GP Middleweight Champion Lovelie Saint-Cyr. After that, we stay within the 185-pound class as two Union GP Middleweight Title Challengers, José Meléndez and Eagle Mondalvi, square off.”

BYRON McCALL: “These are some phenomenal fights to start the main card, and you’re right, all four of these guys are potentially vying for a shot at the title. The common thing you can say about these two matchups is that they pit ferocious and aggressive strikers with cardio for days against one another. These four contenders epitomize what the Middleweight Division is all about. With an impressive victory, one of these four gentlemen could likely be seeing a Championship opportunity in their next outing.”

BODIE SULLIVAN: “And speaking of potentially vying for a Championship opportunity, our featured undercard bout is a Heavyweight tilt between the rising Dominic Donaldson taking on the former Heavyweight Champion Owen Barnes. I think it’s fair to say that these two are on different paths, but tonight they meet at a crossroads that could dictate the future of this division at the top.”

BYRON McCALL: “Yeah, I agree with what you’re saying, Bodie. First, let’s take a look at Dominic Donaldson. He was a runner-up in Everest MMA SZN 3, but when he entered the Heavyweight ranks in Union GP at the beginning of 2023, he flipped a switch and took his skill set and discipline to a whole new level. He went 6-0 last year and is on the cusp of a title fight. He’s proven to be active, now he’s needing that one big name signature win, and a win over a former Champion like Barnes would be just the thing needed. On the flip side with Owen Barnes, he’s been in a bit of a rut as of late. He is coming into this win off of a win, but previously he lost three straight. Granted, it was a hellacious gauntlet against Gauge Lattimore, Viktor Volkov, and Donnie Calabrese, but even still, those losses are gonna push him back a bit as far as being a title contender, despite what the number next to his name indicates. However, if he can secure a win over a blazing prospect like Donaldson, he’ll be brought back into a brighter light and continue to obtain these top ranked fights in hopes to return to title contention.”

BODIE SULLIVAN: “And from there, we head into the Championship block of the card, starting first with our Co-Main Event. Sadie Williams looks to make her first Lightweight Title defense, after beating Paige Holloway in an instant classic, against Maddox Moon in a rematch. The first time these two met, Williams got the win in what even she admitted was a disputed decision, this time around they get the opportunity to settle the score and erase all doubts.”

BYRON McCALL: “Both of these fighters possess world-class Jiu-Jitsu skills that basically cancel each other out. However, since their first encounter, Sadie Williams has exceeded all expectations; winning the Lightweight Championship, setting a new record for fastest submission win, and earning Submission of the Year Honors. Make no mistake, Maddox Moon has earned this opportunity, but to say he’s got an uphill battle would be an understatement in my opinion. We’ll see later tonight if he’s closed the gap during this camp.”

BODIE SULLIVAN: “Then finally, in the Main Event, Derrius Webb will put his Middleweight Title on the line for a third time against the number one contender, Reggie James. This is an intriguing clash of styles type of contest where both guys bring very different skill sets to the table. On one hand, you’ve got Webb who possesses lethal striking and blazing speed, and on the other hand you’ve got James who is in your face, constantly grinding his opponents with grappling and playing mind games to set up traps to lure his opponents into unforgiving submissions.”

BYRON McCALL: “If there’s one thing we know about Championship fights, it’s that they show what kind of fighter you are on the biggest stage, when the lights are the brightest. Both of these guys have shined during big moments, so you get the feeling this could be a classic. With the added layer of contrasting styles, it brings that unpredictable element that’s gonna leave you hanging off the edge of your seat!”

BODIE SULLIVAN: “And we’ll be here every step of the way, breaking down the action and providing you with the best analysis in the business, folks. So with that, let’s toss it over to our very own hype man himself, the mouthpiece of MMA, Mike Dempsey, who’s on stand by awaiting his cue. Ladies and gentlemen, IT’S BOUT TIME!

ROUND ONE: The arena is now packed and in full force as we begin the main card opener. Setting the tempo for the rest of the evening are two Middleweights sitting just outside of the top five, both eager to break into the title picture. Deebo Briggs and Lovelie Saint-Cyr both are looking for a bounce back win and garner some momentum after losing their last outings by knockout. The opening bell echoes and without hesitation, Saint-Cyr catches Briggs’ high kick, seamlessly transforming it into a powerful shove that sends Briggs sprawling to the canvas. In a heartbeat, Saint-Cyr  leaps onto Briggs’ back in a frenzied scramble, teasing a rear-naked choke. The crowd roars, but Briggs contorts and escapes the clutches of defeat. The two fighters reset, but Briggs, now on the offensive, fires off a flurry of punches and low kicks, all the while dodging Saint-Cyr’s relentless takedown attempts. A thunderous uppercut from Briggs lands like a lightning strike as Saint-Cyr rises, leaving him leaking from a sizable gash. The round reaches its peak with a chaotic exchange, Saint-Cyr briefly tasting the canvas, only to defiantly rise before the horn, absorbing a barrage of punches from Briggs.

ROUND TWO: The second frame opens with Briggs showcasing his striking prowess, tagging Saint-Cyr with a barrage of right hands. The cut on Saint-Cyr’s brow deepens, prompting a concerned referee to call for a medical check. With the wound cleansed, the fighters resume, and Briggs dazzles with a barrage of combinations, exploiting every opening in Saint-Cyr’s defense. The ebb and flow of the bout continues as Saint-Cyr retaliates, cracking Briggs with a resounding right. A ferocious kick sends Saint-Cyr to the canvas, but the resilient fighter springs back to his feet, only to be met with a storm of punches from Briggs. The round concludes with Saint-Cyr scoring a gritty takedown, leaving Briggs to uncork hammers from a crimson-soaked vantage point.

ROUND THREE: The final round unfolds with Saint-Cyr landing a grazing uppercut, a fleeting moment of triumph swiftly countered by Briggs’ relentless assault. Briggs’ right hand continues to target the cut that trickles blood down from Saint-Cyr’s battered face. In dramatic fashion, Saint-Cyr wipes the blood from his eyes and charges forward, wild punches flying, and Briggs retaliates with another thunderous right hand. The arena trembles as Saint-Cyr, against the odds, drops Briggs with a seismic uppercut. A valiant attempt at a rear-naked choke follows, but Briggs evades, initiating a scramble that sees both fighters trading positions. The bout concludes with a breathtaking exchange of wild, unbridled punches, leaving the crowd on its feet, bathed in the raw emotion of a thrilling fifteen minutes of fistic fireworks.

Meléndez, however, expertly sprawls and transitions into a dominant position. The crowd roars with appreciation for the technical prowess on display. BODIE SULLIVAN: “Welcome back to the broadcast, ladies and gentlemen. We’ve got a lot more action ahead, but before we get to that, let’s take a moment to acknowledge a man who is sure fire future Hall of Famer, the former Heavyweight Champion himself, “Dog Face” Donnie Calabrese!”

BYRON McCALL: “Well, well, well, would you look at that, Bodie! It’s none other than the legendary ‘Dog Face’ Donnie himself gracing us with his presence tonight! This man is a legendary fan favorite, a former heavyweight champion who’s been in this company since day one! You can feel the energy in this building as fans rise to their feet to salute this MMA icon. What an honor it is to have him in the house, I can’t wait to see him back in action!”

ROUND ONE: The Heavyweight clash kicks off with the crowd on their feet as they prepare themselves for a wild clash of titans. Dominic Donaldson exudes confidence, ready to unleash havoc. Across the cage stands former Champ Owen Barnes, dialed in and ready to rock. With the fight underway, the two behemoths meet in the center, exchanging probing jabs. Donaldson’s Muay Thai expertise becomes evident as he controls the distance, but Barnes fires back with a quick, snapping leg kick, testing the waters. The crowd roars with every exchange. Donaldson bobs and weaves through Barnes’ striking arsenal. A powerful overhand right from Donaldson connects, shaking Barnes momentarily. However, Barnes displays resilience, countering with a swift left hook that surprises the Kratos Combat Sports prospect. As the round progresses, Donaldson changes the tempo. He closes the distance with a Thai clinch, imposing his will on Barnes. In a clinch exchange, Donaldson sees an opening and unleashes a devastating elbow that lands flush on Barnes’ temple. The arena falls silent for a split second before erupting into a frenzy as Barnes crumples to the canvas. The referee jumps in to halt the action, declaring Donaldson the winner with a late first-round finish. The crowd explodes in cheers with the decisive elbow that sealed the deal for Donaldson, effectively cementing himself as a legitimate title contender.

BODIE SULLIVAN: “And we’re back, fight fans, with more adrenaline-fueled action inside the octagon! As we gear up for our Lightweight Championship Co-Main Event, we have to give a shout out to the Heavyweight King himself gracing us with his presence, the Champ himself Viktor Volkov is here enjoying the spectacle!”

BYRON McCALL: “Big Vik on campus tonight! You know, seeing Volkov here adds an extra layer of intensity to the atmosphere. And you can bet every fighter in that octagon tonight is feeling that energy, knowing they’re performing in front of the man who holds the crown in the most dangerous division in MMA. Who knows, maybe he’s scouting his next potential opponent?”

EARLY IN THE MORNING, RISIN’ TO THE STREET
LIKE ME UP THEY CIGARETTE, AND I’LL STRAP SHOES ON MY FEET
GOT TO FIND A REASON, REASON THINGS WENT WRONG
GOT TO FIND A REASON WHY MY MONEY’S ALL GONE
I GOT A DALMATIAN, AND I CAN STILL GET HIGH
I CAN PLAY THE GUITAR LIKE A MOYHERFUCKIN’ RIOT

As the arena buzzes with excitement, the unmistakable strums of Sublime’s “What I Got” fill the air, signaling the arrival of the challenger, Maddox Moon. Despite the rhythm of the music, Maddox’s demeanor remains stoic, his expression calm and collected as he makes his way to the octagon.

With a nonchalant swagger, Moon navigates through the sea of cheering fans, his easygoing charm evident in the casual wave he offers to the crowd. Though his movements are fluid and effortless, there’s an underlying sense of determination in his stride, a quiet confidence that belies his laid-back demeanor.

BODIE SULLIVAN: “Alright ladies and gentleman, it’s time for the Lightweight Championship Co-Main Event! Making his way to the octagon now is a man who has quickly ascended the rankings and has firmly cemented himself as one of the top contenders in this division. Despite his calm and cool demeanor, Maddox Moon is looking for revenge. His only losses since signing with Union GP are against Alistair McKay, where he mistakenly attempted to trade blows with one of the heaviest hitters ever at 155, and then what some would claim a controversial decision loss to the reigning Champion, Sadie Williams. Tonight, we will see the second chapter where Moon has a chance to erase any disputes and walk out of New Orleans as Champion.”

BYRON McCALL: “Maddox Moon possesses a skill set that matches up great with Williams. He can go tit-for-tat with Sadie on the ground, and has some deceptively dangerous kicks that could keep her at a distance and not allow her to shoot for takedowns. These two have already spent fifteen minutes in the cage with each other, so we have to expect to see some new wrinkles in their approach. Has Moon done enough to improve and get over the hump and become a champion? We’re gonna find out soon, and this time, we put twenty-five minutes on the clock!”

As he approaches the cage, Maddox acknowledges the cheers of the crowd with a nod of appreciation, though his focus never wavers from the task at hand. Despite the raucous energy swirling around him, he remains steadfast and composed.

With a brief nod to the official, Moon undresses from his BST Fightwear warmups down to his fight gear and submits to the customary inspection routine with quiet efficiency. He exudes an air of calm assurance, unfazed by the magnitude of the moment.

Once he’s been cleared, Moon steps through the cage doors with a quiet determination. With a nod to his cornermen, Moon settles into position, his focus razor-sharp as he prepares to do battle for the coveted Lightweight Championship. The crowd’s cheers reach a fever pitch as they anticipate the clash of titans about to unfold.

MISERY MISERY
IS THE VENOM IN MY BRAIN
KILLING ME, KILLING ME
BUT I DON’T FEEL THE PAIN

As the arena rumbles with anticipation, the lights dim, signaling the imminent arrival of the reigning Lightweight Champion, Sadie Williams. A thumping bass shakes the venue while “Venom” by Icon for Hire plays, electrifying the atmosphere as fans rise to their feet, eager for the spectacle about to unfold.

With a grin plastered across her face, Sadie emerges from the tunnel, bathed in a cascade of spotlights. She exudes an aura of confidence, her stride relaxed yet purposeful. As she saunters toward the cage, the crowd erupts into deafening cheers, their enthusiasm contagious.

Taking her time, Sadie indulges in the moment, reaching out to slap hands with adoring fans lining the barricades. Their roars of encouragement fuel her spirit, adding to the energy coursing through the arena.

BODIE SULLIVAN: “Ladies and gentlemen, the champ is here! Sadie Williams makes her first appearance in 2024 right now on the back of an absolutely incredible 2023 campaign. After becoming the Everest MMA SZN 3 Featherweight Champion, she entered the ranks of Union GP. She went a perfect 5-0, which all culminated in a shocking win over future Hall of Famer Paige Holloway for the 155-pound crown.”

BYRON McCALL: “One of the hardest things to do at this level in this sport is not just becoming a champion, but to then stay at that level and defend the title. So often we see a new champion drop the title in their first or maybe second defense, and that just proves how rapid this level of competition evolves. Sadie Williams has been in this game for quite some time, competing in several other promotions before finally getting the call up to the big leagues. From what I’ve seen from her, her skill set is off the charts. We know that she has that killer instinct when she took home the 2023 Submission of the Year Honors with the fastest submission win in Union GP history. But what I love about her, is that she carries herself so differently from a lot of other fighters. You see her walking out with a smile on her face, soaking in the moment. She loves the grind, she loves the competition, and she loves the discipline it takes to be on top. She looks ready to further her reign as champion tonight, and we are about to see how it all plays out.”

Before stepping into the octagon, Sadie disrobes her BST Fightwear warmups and steps up for the customary inspection routine with the official, exchanging playful banter and flashing a mischievous grin during the process.

Her demeanor is relaxed, and once she’s been cleared, she springs into action, racing up the steps and executing a flawless cartwheel through the cage doors. The crowd erupts into a frenzy, their cheers echoing off the walls as they marvel at her athleticism and showmanship.

With a wink and a nod to her corner, Sadie strides confidently to her designated spot, her focus unwavering. As the referee signals to the announcer, the anticipation reaches its peak, setting the stage for a showdown of epic proportions.

MIKE DEMPSEY: “Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the Co-Main Event of the evening! Sanctioned by the Louisiana State Boxing and Wrestling Commission, our three judges scoring this contest at cageside are Fabien Cormier, Hillaire Toussaint, and Jules Maillard, and when the action begins, our referee in charge in the octagon is Ron Anderson. AND NOW, live from the sold out Smoothie King Center in THE BIG EASY — New Orleans, Louisiana, streaming exclusively on the Battleground Network…”

IT’S TIME!

MIKE DEMPSEY: “The following contest is scheduled for five rounds and it is for the undisputed Union Grand Prix Lightweight Championship! Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Fighter holding a professional mixed martial arts record of twelve wins, five losses. He stands 5’10” tall, and weighing in at 155 pounds. He is from Happy Valley, Oregon, fighting out of Gold Blooded MMA — presenting the number three ranked Lightweight Contender in the World, Maddox Moon!”

Maddox Moon exudes an aura of determination as he prepares for this massive battle. With a steely gaze, he assumes a low, crouching stance. Ignoring the chaos around him, he delves deep into a meditative state, honing his mind and body for the impending clash. Every breath he takes fuels his resolve, sharpening his senses and amplifying his instincts.

MIKE DEMPSEY: “And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu Fighter holding a professional mixed martial arts record of fifteen wins, five losses, one draw. She stands 5’9” tall, and weighing in at 153.5 pounds. She is from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, fighting out of Titan MMA in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada — presenting the Everest MMA SZN 3 Featherweight Champion, and THE REIGNING, DEFENDING, UNDISPUTED Union Grand Prix Lightweight Champion of the World, “The Serpent” Sadie Williams!”

Sadie Williams prowls like a caged beast in her corner. With a fierce determination burning in her eyes, she shares intense nods with her cornermen while cracking a sinister, yet playful smile. The crowd roars in a frenzy, their energy fueling her adrenaline as she pumps her fists and acknowledges their support with a steely gaze. In this intoxicating moment, nerves morph into a force of raw power, propelling her towards the imminent battle that lies ahead.

BODIE SULLIVAN: “And here we go ladies and gentlemen! We’re just moments away for a possible twenty-five minute rematch with the Lightweight Championship hanging in the balance!”

The referee steps to the center of the cage and motions for both fighters to meet. With Mike Dempsey standing behind holding the microphone, referee Ron Anderson gives one final pep talk.

RON ANDERSON: “Alright fighters, we’ve gone over the rules in the back. Protect yourself at all times, follow my instructions, touch gloves now if you wish to and let’s do it.”

Both fighters seem ready to burst with adrenaline. Without much hesitation, they touch gloves and quickly backpedal to their respective corners. As they settle into their stances, Ron Anderson checks off with each fighter one last time, ensuring they are both ready for the challenge that lies ahead.

ROUND ONE: The crowd is on their feet as the referee signals the start of the championship bout between Sadie Williams and Maddox Moon. Sadie exudes a calm, cool confidence as she steps forward, her fists clenched and her eyes locked on her opponent. Maddox, determined to avenge his previous loss, mirrors her gaze with steely resolve. Sadie wastes no time, unleashing a barrage of punches with lightning speed. Her boxing prowess is on full display as she expertly weaves in and out, landing precise strikes to Maddox’s head and body. Maddox, known more for his kicks than his hands as far as striking is concerned, struggles to find his range as Sadie closes the distance, keeping the fight in close quarters. Despite his best efforts, Maddox is unable to unleash his signature kicks, thwarted by Sadie’s relentless pressure. The crowd roars with each thunderous blow as Sadie asserts her dominance in the striking department. Moon, sensing the urgency, attempts to circle away, but Sadie stays glued to him like white on rice, a glass of milk, a paper paper, in a snowstorm — refusing to give him an inch of space. As the round draws to a close, it’s evident that Sadie has dominated the stand-up exchanges, leaving Moon searching for answers. The horn blows, signaling the end of the round, and Sadie returns to her corner with a confident grin, knowing she’s taken the first step towards retaining her title.

ROUND TWO: The second round begins with both fighters showing a renewed sense of determination. Maddox Moon, unfazed by his struggles in the opening round, starts to find his rhythm, utilizing his nasty kicking techniques to keep Sadie at bay. His legs whip through the air with deadly precision, landing punishing blows to Sadie’s calves and midsection. However, Sadie refuses to back down, eating Maddox’s kicks and countering with thunderous punches of her own. The crowd is on the edge of their seats as the two modern day warriors exchange blows in the center of the cage. Just when it seems like Moon is gaining the upper hand, Sadie lands a devastating overhand right that sends him stumbling backward into the fence. Maddox is rocked but still standing. He digs deep and summons his resilience to weather the storm. He clinches with Sadie, attempting to buy himself some time to recover. The round ends with both fighters bloodied and bruised, leaving the outcome hanging in the balance, potentially looking at tied-up scorecards across the board.

ROUND THREE: As the third round gets underway, both Sadie Williams and Maddox Moon know that the fight is very much in either one’s hands to take. Sadie comes out swinging, looking to put an exclamation mark on her performance. Moon senses the danger and shoots for a takedown, hoping to turn the tide in his favor. The two grapplers finally engage in a frenzied scramble, each vying for control on the canvas. Sadie, known for her stellar submission game, reverses the position and locks in a tight body triangle from the back, trapping Maddox in a precarious position. With the crowd on their feet, Sadie sinks in a relentless rear naked choke, her arms cinching tight around Moon’s neck. Despite his valiant effort to escape, Maddox is unable to break free from Sadie’s grasp. Trapped and exhausted, Moon succumbs to the choke, fading into unconsciousness as the referee rushes in to end the fight. The crowd erupts into a frenzy as Sadie Williams retains her championship title in a thriller!

Sadie is so overcome with excitement and relief that she races around the perimeter of the octagon while the audience erupts into deafening cheers. On the opposite side, the medical team quickly enters the octagon to attend to Maddox Moon. After a brief examination, Moon regains consciousness and is lifted up onto a stool. While being further examined, Sadie graciously walks over to check in on him, and the two embrace with a hug. Once it’s clear that Moon is able to maintain his footing, the physicians exit the cage, allowing both fighters to gather in the center of the octagon for the official announcement of the winner.

MIKE DEMPSEY: “Ladies and gentlemen, referee Ron Anderson has called for a stop in this fight at three minutes eighteen seconds in the third round, declaring your winner by submission, AAAAAND STIIIIILL the undisputed Union Grand Prix Lightweight Champion of the World, “The Serpent” Sadie Williams!”

The audience erupts in applause as Sadie is declared the winner and has the title wrapped around her waist by Dante Reed. The two fighters exchange a respectful handshake before going their separate ways. The screen displays a graphic with the fight’s statistics and the commentators give a summary of the match.

The arena is still buzzing with excitement with the lights casting dramatic shadows across the octagon. Sadie Williams, her face beaming with a sense of great accomplishment, stands in the center of the cage, the Lightweight Championship belt draped over her shoulder. Bodie Sullivan, with a microphone in hand, approaches her for the post-fight interview.

BODIE SULLIVAN: “Ladies and gentlemen, I’m here with the winner AND STILL Lightweight Champion, Sadie Williams! Sadie, congratulations on your incredible victory tonight. How are you feeling after successfully defending your title for the first time?”

Sadie’s smile widens as she takes a deep breath, soaking in the moment before responding.

SADIE WILLIAMS: “Thanks, Bodie! Whew, what a rush! I feel absolutely amazing. Defending this title means everything to me, and to do it against such a tough opponent like Maddox in front of this amazing crowd, it’s just surreal.”

The crowd erupts into cheers, chanting Sadie’s name as she acknowledges them with a grateful nod.

BODIE SULLIVAN: “Speaking of Maddox Moon, this was a rematch from where you won by what you even admit was a somewhat controversial decision. Tonight, however, you left no doubts by securing a third round rear-naked choke submission. What adjustments did you make coming into this fight?”

Sadie’s expression turns serious as she reflects on the fight, her eyes gleaming with determination.

SADIE WILLIAMS: “Maddox is a beast, no doubt about it. Our last fight showed me how good he is on the ground. It’s not very common that people can keep up with me on the ground, and he definitely did. So, I knew I had to be sharper, more calculated. I focused on my ground game a lot during this camp, and I think it showed tonight.”

BODIE SULLIVAN: “Absolutely, your ground game looked phenomenal out there. Were you surprised at all that this fight was more of a striking affair for the first couple rounds?”

SADIE WILLIAMS: “You gotta be ready for anything in here, and I prepared myself in all aspects of the game. I was feeling pretty good standing up, so I didn’t feel the need to switch things up. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, yanno? I think it all lined up for me there at the end. Once it went to the ground, I could feel his cardio fading. I just had to stay patient and take what he was giving me, and in the end, I got his back and locked in the choke deep, I knew he wasn’t getting out of it.”

BODIE SULLIVAN: “It was certainly a fantastic performance and you never allowed yourself to get into too much trouble. Now, looking ahead, who do you have your eyes set on for your next title defense and when are you looking to get back in there?”

SADIE WILLIAMS: “Anyone, anytime, anywhere. You know where I’m at. I’m ready to take on all challengers and prove once again why I’m the best in the division.”

BODIE SULLIVAN: “There you have it, folks. Sadie, once again congratulations on another incredible fight, it’s always an honor and a privilege to call your fights. Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for the reigning Lightweight Champion, Sadie Williams!”

As the interview concludes, the crowd roars with approval, showering Sadie with adoration and respect. With the Championship belt held high above her head, Sadie exits the cage, basking in the glory of her hard-fought victory, ready to continue her reign as the undisputed Lightweight champion.

BODIE SULLIVAN: “Ladies and gentlemen, we are back from our break for station identification, and we are just moments away from our Middleweight Championship Main Event here at the Smoothie King Center in The Big Easy! Before we dive into the action one last time, we gotta shine some light on a “one of one” individual in the crowd. It’s the undisputed Bantamweight Champion, and the 2023 ICSC Fighter of the Year, “Supastar” CC Flynn”

BYRON McCALL: “It goes without saying but Supa is the most captivating and compelling fighter today. Folks, if you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, let me enlighten you. This woman right here has been tearing through the competition like a hurricane through a trailer park! Whether it’s Union GP, Ryūjin FC, or hell even backstage, she’s about that action! Where Supa goes, the money flows! She’s the embodiment of speed and precision, and tonight, she’s here live to watch the greatness that’s about to unfold in our Middleweight Championship Main Event!”

SOLITARY DIAMONDS, SOLITARY JEWELS
WITH A BITCH THAT’S SHININ’, LOOKIN’ LIKE THE MOON
SAID SHE WANNA PARTY, WANNA LET IT LOOSE
BUSTIN’ OUT MY BACK ROOM, SHE AIN’T OUT THE LOOP
IT’S JUMPIN’, LET IT IN (OOH)
I PUT IT OUT, THEY COME IN (OOH)

As the pulsating beat of “Solitaires” by Future ft. Travis Scott fills the arena, the crowd comes alive with anticipation hanging heavy in the air. The arena lights flicker, casting dramatic shadows across the octagon, as Reggie James makes his way towards the cage, exuding an aura of undeniable swagger.

Draped in his signature black and gold robe, Reggie’s eyes gleam with determination as he makes his way to the octagon. Each step he takes is deliberate, measured, as if he’s savoring every moment leading up to his shot at the Middleweight Championship.

The crowd erupts as Reggie marches toward the cage, his presence electrifying the atmosphere. He takes a moment to acknowledge the fans, offering a nod and a smile to those who have supported him on his journey.

BODIE SULLIVAN: “And now ladies and gentlemen, we are down to the final fight of the night. First up, making his way to the octagon now, is a man who has shown to be one of the top tier contenders in this sport, regardless of weight class. Reggie James first made a name for himself competing in the now dissolved 225-pound Cruiserweight Division, but as of late has etched quite a name for himself here in the Middleweight Division. You take a look at his résumé, and you can see why. His only losses have come at the hands of former Champions Gauge Lattimore, Travis Decker, and Lovelie Saint-Cyr — in which two of the three went the distance. Of his twelve wins, eight of those have come by way of submission, making him an absolute terror on the ground. This matchup makes for an intriguing clash of styles, and whoever can implement their gameplan to the fullest has the best chance of walking away with the 185-pound title.”

BYRON McCALL: “And that’s key for Reggie James. He has to know that he cannot allow his opponent the opportunity to keep the fight standing. Reggie will need to keep the fight in close range, work inside the clinch, set up the takedowns, and if he drags the fight on the ground, suffocate him with relentless pressure. That’s been Reggie’s M.O. from day one. He has been in big moments before, and has big names on his resume like splitting a series with Lovelie Saint-Cyr at one a piece, a big time win over José Meléndez, and most recently a win over Everest MMA SZN 3 Welterweight Champion Kian De Beer. With that said, make no mistake about it, this is Reggie James’ biggest fight to date. This is his first crack at Championship gold. He’s gonna have his work cut out for him, but if he stays patient while keeping a steady pressure and set up those traps, he has a very good chance at finally becoming a Union GP Champion.”

With a quick glance at the official, Reggie disrobes and submits to the mandatory inspection routine, his demeanor unwavering, his focus unbreakable.

As the final checks are completed, Reggie steps into the octagon with a fluid motion that speaks volumes about his confidence. His muscles ripple beneath his skin, a testament to the countless hours of training and preparation he’s dedicated to this moment.

With a final nod to his corner, Reggie assumes his fighting stance, his eyes locked on the entrance ramp. The time for words is over — now is the time for action.

DRANKIN’ DOPE TURNED ME TO A SUPERHERO, YEAH, YEAH
HIT THAT PILL, TURNED ME TO A SUPERHERO, YEAH, YEAH
BOOMINATI TURNED ME TO A SUPERHERO, YEAH, YEAH (METRO)
(IF YOUNG METRO DON’T TRUST YOU, I’M GON’ SHOOT YOU)

As the lyrics of “Superhero (Heroes and Villains)” – Metro Boomin, Future, Chris Brown boom through the loudspeakers, the lights burst forth, illuminating the arena with a blinding radiance. All eyes are locked on the figure emerging from the depths of the backstage area, casting an ethereal glow on his every move. Derrius Webb steps into the spotlight, bathing in the warm embrace of the crowd. The collective roar of the crowd engulfs him, washing away any doubts and fueling the fire within.

With committed eyes fixed solely upon the imposing steel cage positioned at the center of the arena, Derrius showcases a look of unyielding courage etched onto his face. Every muscle in his chiseled frame tenses. Despite the waves of jubilation crashing upon his senses, he remains steadfast.

Derrius marches towards the cage with his entourage of teammates, most notably his trusted head coach Roscoe Robinson, trailing close behind. Their presence, a symbol of camaraderie and unwavering support, stands as a testament to the arduous journey that has led them to this moment.

BODIE SULLIVAN: “And with the final walkout of the night, here comes the reigning Middleweight Champion, Derrius “Spyda” Webb! I feel confident in saying that this man right here is without a doubt the hottest fighter competing today. He was crowned the 2023 Union GP Fighter of the Year, as well as the 2023 Prospect of the Year, and with good reason. Webb is riding an astonishing eleven fight win streak, dating back to his days in Everest MMA. He is currently 7-0 through his tenure in Union GP, and tonight he’s looking to make his third successful title defense. ”

BYRON McCALL: “He seems like he’s done it all, and at just 23 years of age, he’s just getting started! He’s been under the tutelage of the likes of Roscoe Robinson, Donnie Calabrese, and Jason Jackson over at the Hit Squad, and he has kept the prestige of that gym at the top tier with his presence. We know Webb is as dangerous as anyone we’ve probably ever seen on the feet, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen him tested on the ground. The last person he faced that had this level of grappling was in Everest against Silvio Gotti Jr., in which Webb lost twice to him, and one of those fights by submission. Derrius’ best chance of walking out with a dub tonight is to utilize his reach advantage, fight on the perimeter, and stay moving. He needs to stay aggressive but at the same time, don’t get reckless. If he can manage that, we’ll be hearing “AND STILL” at the end of the night.”

Reaching the cageside area, a brief pause ensues, allowing Roscoe to meticulously inspect Derrius’ gloves, ensuring every detail is perfect for the impending war. In this fleeting moment, unspoken words pass between them, a silent exchange of camaraderie and unwavering belief. A fist bump seals their bond, a final gesture of solidarity before the inevitable clash.

Turning away, Derrius confronts the cutman for inspection. An air of intensity envelopes the scene as the cutman meticulously inspects the Champion. With a nod of approval, Derrius meets the stringent standards of the competition.

Taking measured strides, Derrius ascends the steps and steps foot inside the octagon, the boundary that separates him from both glory and peril. Even in this defining moment, he remains fluid, throwing punches and kicks into the empty air, his movements a chorus of controlled power. Time ticks away relentlessly, each passing second amplifying the anticipation that hangs heavy in the atmosphere.

MIKE DEMPSEY: “Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the Main Event of the evening! Sanctioned by the Louisiana State Boxing and Wrestling Commission, our three judges scoring this contest at cageside are Fabien Cormier, Hillaire Toussaint, and Jules Maillard, and when the action begins, our referee in charge in the octagon is Dusty Whittaker. AND NOW, this is the moment you’ve all been waiting for! Live from the sold out Smoothie King Center in THE BIG EASY — New Orleans, Louisiana, streaming exclusively on the Battleground Network…”

IT’S TIME!

MIKE DEMPSEY: “The following contest is scheduled for five rounds and it is for the undisputed Union Grand Prix Middleweight Championship! Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Fighter holding a professional mixed martial arts record of twelve wins, three losses. He stands 5’11” tall, and weighing in at 185 pounds. He is from Phoenix, Arizona, fighting out of The ScrapYard MMA — presenting the number one ranked Middleweight Contender in the World, “Rocka” Reggie James!”

In the dimly lit corner, Reggie James exudes an almost spectral calmness. Despite the outward appearance of composure, an electric tension crackles through the air, signaling the impending clash of titans in the Main Event. Deep within his soul, Reggie senses the challenge ahead, a relentless adversary poised to test the very limits of his courage and determination, and he feels ready to take the challenge head on.

MIKE DEMPSEY: “And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Kickboxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of eighteen wins, four losses. He stands 6’4” tall, and weighing in at 185 pounds. He is from Brooklyn, New York, fighting out of The Hit Squad — presenting the former three-time Everest MMA Welterweight Champion and THE REIGNING, DEFENDING, UNDISPUTED Union Grand Prix Middleweight Champion of the World, Derrius “Spyda” Webb!”

Fueled by adrenaline, Derrius Webb paces in his corner, a flurry of emotions swirling within him. He begins smacking his face, chest, and legs and with each resounding smack against his flesh, he ignites a primal fire, stoking the flames of readiness for the imminent battle ahead. As each second passes, the image of discipline and preparation becomes more and more evident for the reigning Champion.

BODIE SULLIVAN: “Here we go, folks! History is up for grabs!”

The referee steps to the center of the cage and motions for both fighters to meet. With Mike Dempsey standing behind holding the microphone, referee Dusty Whittaker gives one final pep talk.

DUSTY WHITTAKER: “Alright gentlemen, we’ve gone through the rules in the back. Protect yourself at all times, follow my instructions, let’s keep it clean, touch gloves and let’s do it.”

Both fighters seem ready to burst with adrenaline. Without much hesitation, they touch gloves and quickly backpedal to their respective corners. As they settle into their stances, Dusty Whittaker checks off with each fighter one last time, ensuring they are both ready for the challenge that lies ahead.

ROUND ONE: The arena is In pandemonium as the bell rings to officially kick off the Main Event. Reggie James wastes no time, lunging forward with lightning speed, relentlessly pursuing takedowns. Webb sprawls back but finds himself trapped early in James’ suffocating grappling blitz. James presses Webb against the cage, unleashing a barrage of strikes mixed with expertly executed takedowns. Webb, renowned for his kickboxing prowess, struggles to find his rhythm, thwarted at every turn by James’ relentless pressure. James seamlessly transitions from clinches to takedowns, showcasing his superior wrestling and grappling skills. Despite Webb’s valiant efforts to defend, James secures dominant positions, launching submission attempts and raining down punishing ground and pound strikes. The crowd roars with each exchange, fully immersed in the intensity of the Championship bout. Webb, known for his gritty resilience, manages to weather the storm, displaying remarkable defensive skills to avoid too much significant damage. However, it’s evident that James is dictating the pace and control of the fight, leaving Webb struggling to mount any meaningful offense as the horn signals the end of a surprisingly one-sided opening round.

ROUND TWO: As the second round begins, James continues his relentless assault, refusing to give Webb an inch of breathing room. Webb stays light on his feet though, looking for opportunities to unleash his devastating strikes. James doesn’t look fazed in the slightest, seamlessly transitioning between striking exchanges and relentless grappling exchanges. With the crowd on the edge of their seats, Webb sees an opening. With lightning speed, he delivers a perfectly timed head kick that catches James flush on the temple with his shin. The arena erupts in shock and awe as James crumbles to the canvas, knocked out cold by Webb’s stunning strike. The referee rushes in to stop the fight, but Webb walks off without any follow up strikes, confident that his connection sealed the deal.

As Webb triumphantly embraces his cornermen, the audience erupts into deafening applause. The medical team quickly enters the octagon to attend to Reggie James. After a brief examination, James is able to regain his footing and the physicians exit the cage, allowing both fighters to gather in the center of the octagon for the official announcement of the winner.

MIKE DEMPSEY: “Ladies and gentlemen, referee Dusty Whittaker has called for a stop in this fight at two minutes fifty-five seconds in the second round, declaring your winner by knockout, AAAAAND STIIIIILL the undisputed Union Grand Prix Middleweight Champion of the World, Derrius “Webb” Spyda!”

The audience erupts in applause as Webb is declared the winner and has the title wrapped around his waist. The two fighters exchange a respectful handshake before going their separate ways. The screen displays a graphic with the fight’s statistics and the commentators give a summary of the match.

The fight may have ended, but the adrenaline still races through Derrius’ veins even after the bell. He runs along the perimeter of the mat, banging his fist against the cage in excitement before leaping up and climbing on top of it, draping a single leg over to the other side. With a smile stretched across his face, Derrius throws both arms above his head before pounding his chest and pointing to the crowd with a nod.

He drops back down to the mat and falls into his entourage there to congratulate him. With the Middleweight Championship in hand, Roscoe Robinson walks over and the two exchange another fist bump before he places the Championship over Derrius’ shoulder. Derrius clutches it with his arm and slaps his hand over the faceplate three times, one for each defense. By this point, Bodie Sullivan has entered the octagon with a microphone in hand, looking to get a word from the Champ.

BODIE SULLIVAN: “Ladies and gentlemen, I am here with the winner AND STILL Middleweight Champion, Derrius Webb! Derrius what a finish from out of nowhere! Can you take us back and tell us what was going through your mind leading up to that head kick knockout?”

Derrius ignores the question, instead he seemingly has something else on his mind.

DERRIUS WEBB: “There’s number three for y’all.”

He cut his eyes to the camera with a grin before winking.

DERRIUS WEBB: “I really can’t stress this enough.  I’m STILL only getting started with this right here.”

He grabs the Championship belt from his shoulder and raises it high above his head, holding it front and center for the entire world to see. After the crowd settles back down, he slowly lowers the Championship and sets it back over his shoulder.

DERRIUS WEBB: “I’m going to keep this short and sweet. You best do better than the last three if you think you can stop what I’m GOING to accomplish.”

He pauses momentarily and looks over to Reggie.

DERRIUS WEBB: “No offense, my man. You brought it here tonight.”

Derrius turns back to the New Orleans crowd.

DERRIUS WEBB: “That goes for anyone who wants what’s mine. That goes for anyone who thinks they can take this UGP Middleweight Championship from MY possession… Nah…”

He shakes his head with an unimpressed look on his face.

DERRIUS WEBB: “It just ain’t going to happen. But you can try!”

He throws his hand up with his index finger extended.

DERRIUS WEBB: “And you will go down… just like Reggie tonight and the other two before him.”

He raises his other hand with the index and middle fingers extended. Combined with the index finger of his other hand, that was one finger per successful title defense, or a twelve depending on how you interpret it. The win streak continues.

BODIE SULLIVAN: “Well there you have it, folks! Give it up for the reigning Middleweight Champion, Derrius “Spyda” Webb!”

With a stone face and a quick head nod, Derrius exuded unshakable confidence. He gives Bodie a fist bump before making his way out of the octagon with the chants from the crowd echoing throughout the arena. As the camera feed begins to zoom out, a wave of camera flashes illuminate the scene as the feed gradually fades away. The Battleground Network emblem blazed across the screen as the final graphic, marking the end of this night’s incredible broadcast.
