STORYLINE DEVELOPMENTS
EURO FC 21 was the night the Euro Fight Circuit announced that its place in the Big 4 Mid-Major Alliance is about more than simply supplying talent, it is building stars of its own. Liam McCarthy came into Dublin with something to prove after his unsuccessful Union GP debut against former champion 2Face Rodríguez, and he answered with the performance a champion is supposed to give. Doran Fields pushed him deep into the fight, but McCarthy found the guillotine in the third round to retain his lightweight title and deliver his first successful championship defense in the Battleground Network era. The win restores some of the momentum McCarthy lost in Miami at UGP 75 and reinforces the idea that, within Euro FC, the champion remains the man to beat. Meanwhile, former Everest MMA welterweight champion Kian De Beer delivered the night’s signature moment, violently removing Jack Foster from his senses with a third round head kick and positioning himself as perhaps the most dangerous fighter in the division.
The rest of the card gave Euro FC plenty of new storylines to work with. Chase Coleman survived a grueling fifteen minute split decision against Silas Jones. The nature of the victory only solidified his standing at the top of the featherweight division. With Laurent Dubois vs Chase Coleman made official post fight, the next chapter is already written. Julia Strauss made a spectacular Euro FC debut by submitting Hugo Rye in the first round, while Laura Booth’s second round knockout of Emma Hunt established her as a legitimate threat, and prompted her to immediately call for a title fight. Soli Bassong’s knockout of Armando Moretti added another dangerous name to the middleweight picture, while Alfie O’Shea continued his campaign of violence with another first round stoppage and an unforgettable celebration atop the cage. Even during the early prelims, the promotion found a potential viral star. Bellamy Beckett needed just 41 seconds to score a crushing knockout. Before the final bout of the early prelims, the broadcast cut to the crowd to spotlight newly signed featherweight Randi Ekaman. The promotion confirmed that Ekaman will make her professional debut at Euro FC 22 in Paris, France, adding another intriguing prospect to the division’s growing ranks. Sam Spencer impressed but it was announced during the post-fight presser that he suffered a fractured hand, putting him on the shelf for some time. Dublin left with its champion still standing, its contenders taking shape, and several new names suddenly demanding the spotlight on their new digital streaming platform.
