Ryūjin FC returns to Tokyo with the jet lag behind it and the tournament bracket getting considerably less forgiving.
Fresh off its cross-promotional play-in with Everest MMA in Honolulu, RFC 6 brings the Championship Grand Prix home to Korakuen Hall, where five divisions begin the first half of their quarterfinal rounds. Ten fights, five weight classes, and the kind of arithmetic that tends to make a fighter’s future look considerably simpler. Win and move on, lose and go home.
Korakuen Hall has hosted enough fights to know better than to be impressed by unbeaten records or elaborate predictions. The building has seen prospects become champions, favorites get exposed, and careers change direction in a matter of minutes. It is an appropriate setting for this stage of the Grand Prix, when there is no longer much value in simply being part of the field.
The play-in decided who earned a seat at the table. Now the tournament starts taking those seats away. RFC 6 is where Ryūjin FC’s Grand Prix begins to feel less like an opportunity and more like an obligation to survive.
