BACKSTORY
A poor girl from a poor family, Katya Belinskaya’s history is pretty simple–she did what she had to do to make money. When she was younger, that included some less than savory things, which she tends not to talk about these days. She discovered martial arts as a teenager, as a way to refocus her life–even at times when she was unable to afford food, she dedicated herself to fighting. As soon as she was legally able, she started taking sanctioned fights; boxing, kickboxing, MMA, the discipline didn’t matter. It was less about the win or the loss, more about a way to get paid and provide for her family.

She was discovered by The Forge MMA ten fights into her amateur career, and offered a chance to train with them, with the intent on turning her pro; initially, she was hesitant to do so, only because she knew the restrictions on professional athletes were harsher than those on amateur ones. However, the opportunity to improve and put herself in a better position was one she couldn’t pass on, so she joined the gym while continuing to take amateur fights.

And improve she did, racking up a streak of 8 consecutive wins–albeit, against mostly lax competition, including 3 fights against the same woman, that all ended in the first round.

Her record in Russia is largely unconfirmed, though, due to the nature of amateur fighting–she’s rumored to have taken over 60 fights before ever turning pro, and though she couldn’t be paid for those fights, she was often paid for other jobs: promotion, modeling, working as ring card girl, anything she could do to make money. But with a professional camp behind her, and her reluctance gradually trimmed away, she’s turned her attention to the professional circuit–and Everest MMA’s Strawweight Division.

Season 1…didn’t go well for her.

She vastly overestimated what a series of fights against lax competition really prepared her for. Picked apart by Rachel Parsons and Elliot McMillan, she only managed a draw against Victoria Marshall before the end of the season, and chose not to return to Everest until she felt more prepared. Fast forward 3 seasons, and Katya looks to come back to the tournament, now as a Flyweight.
