ONE ON ONE FT. JORDAN PARKER
The conference room at The Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas is elegant and sophisticated, embodying the luxury the hotel is known for. The expansive space has floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip, allowing natural light to flood the room while offering a glimpse of the city’s vibrant energy. The walls are adorned with subtle, tasteful artwork, and the lighting is soft yet ample, providing a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
The room features a large, polished wood conference table in the center, surrounded by high-back leather chairs. Situated across from one another is UGP reporter Isaac Cohen and the challenger for the lightweight championship, Jordan Parker. The buzz of the busy hotel is faintly heard in the background.
Isaac Cohen, dressed in the standard suit we’ve grown accustomed to him wearing. Jordan Parker has a light gray T-shirt with charcoal colored blazer and slacks that match. A gold-faced watch with black straps around his wrist.
Isaac Cohen: “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to Union Grand Prix’s One-on-One series! My guest at this time made his return to Union Grand Prix back at UGP #54 after a four-year absence, and picked up as if he never left with a flying triangle choke that won submission of the year! He finished the year on a 4 fight-winning streak. In just a few days he will be main eventing UGP 63 at The Sphere in Las Vegas! Ladies and gentlemen, please help me welcome, Jordan Parker!”
Isaac leans forward slightly with a smile.
Isaac Cohen: “Jordan, first of all, thanks for taking the time to talk. We’re just days away from the big fight at UGP 63. You’re facing the lightweight champion, Benji Myers. This is a huge opportunity to make history and become a champion once more. How are you feeling heading into this one?”
Jordan Parker: “I feel good, man. It’s been a long road to get back here, but honestly, I’m more focused than ever. It’s been a really good camp. My first with Holmes MMA. They have a team that’s been great to work with.”
Jordan leans back in his chair slowly.
Isaac Cohen: “Now, Jordan, you’ve had quite the career. You’re a two-time lightweight champion along with being the first ever Lightweight champion. Winning the first at just 19 years old is still the second for the youngest champion in MMA history. All before your 21st birthday. Some might say that’s a Hall of Fame-worthy career.”
Jordan offers a small smirk.
Jordan Parker: “It got off to a wild and early start. I think many people, myself included, forget how young I was when I started. I was 15 when James Shark recruited me to train at Slaughterhouse. I won the first-ever Lightweight Grand Prix and the championship at 19.
Isaac Cohen: “Let’s talk about that break for a moment.”
Isaac quickly jumps in to interrupt.
Isaac Cohen: “You took a break from the sport to recover from injuries. Was that due to the broken neck you suffered years prior?”
Jordan Parker: “Not originally. I had various, smaller injuries. I was only supposed to be away 6 months, maybe a year. I was expecting the birth of my daughter. It seemed like the right time to get away to recover and recharge.”
Raising an eyebrow, Issac presses a little deeper.
Isaac Cohen: “What happened to turn that into 4 years?”
Jordan Parker: “I had a car accident that reinjured my neck to the point I doctors told me I was done and couldn’t fight. I had the whole retirement announcement and all. From there life kinda took over. I would eventually recover and get cleared, but my son was born and was looking at divorce.”
Jordan pauses, thinking for a moment.
Jordan Parker: “There were some dark times after that. If not for the fact that I had my kids. I don’t know where I’d be right now. They kept me straight and are the only reason I managed to pull myself out of that.”
Jordan pauses once more lets out a sigh and takes a deep breath. Talking about these vulnerable moments takes a small toll.
Jordan Parker: “From there I rediscovered my love for this sport, getting back in shape, and having that hunger to compete again. Now, with this fight coming up, I feel like I’m in the best place mentally and physically that I’ve ever been.”
Isaac, who has been letting Jordan speak and soaking his words.
Isaac Cohen: “Well… wow. That’s a lot for anyone, but here you are on the other side. You say you feel you’re at the best you’ve ever been and looking at this run since your return it’s hard to argue that. You have looked impressive. How are you feeling about getting back to this level, in a fairly quick fashion?”
Jordan Parker: “Getting back to this spot, this fight, it means everything to me. Becoming a three-time lightweight champion? That’s historic! You can’t take that away…”
Jordan’s expression turns serious, eyes focused.
Jordan Parker: “But right now, I’m just focused on what’s ahead of me in that cage. I have to get the win before considering the ramifications of winning. Despite what Benji might think, I’m not sitting around thinking this is a foregone conclusion. I’ve had some tough fights with Lauren Moore, Hanako, Delaney, and many others. Benji could very well be the hardest of toughest of them all. “
Isaac Cohen: “”Benji has been on a 7-fight win streak, and he’s looking to defend that belt with everything he’s got. How do you beat a guy like that, who’s been so dominant?”
Jordan Parker: “Benji’s a talented fighter, no doubt. His striking is definitely something to be wary of. He’s explosive, fast, and he hits hard. But I’ve fought against alot of fighters with similar styles before, so I know what to expect. I’m exactly revealing any big secrets when I say, I’m going to rely on my experience. My Brazilian jiu-jitsu is my foundation, so obviously I’m going to make sure I don’t get into a striking war with him unless I control the distance. I plan on using my grappling to neutralize his stand-up and make him work. If I can get him to the ground, that’s where I’ll have the advantage.”
Jordan leans forward now, a fire in his eyes
Jordan Parker: “You beat him by staying calm, staying disciplined. Benji is a dangerous fighter, no doubt about that. He’s got speed and power, but he’s also reckless. He’s emotional in the cage. I know he’s gonna come in hot, trying to finish me fast. But I’ve been in these situations before. I know how to weather the storm. It’s about staying patient, making the right moves when the time’s right, and capitalizing on his mistakes.”
Isaac Cohen: “Alright, last question. What can the fans expect from Jordan Parker at UGP 63?”
He leans back again, a confident smile creeping onto his face
Jordan Parker: “They can expect fireworks. They can expect a war. But most of all, they can expect me to leave that cage with the belt around my waist. I’ve put in the work, and I’m ready to prove that no matter how long I’ve been gone, I’m still the best lightweight in the world.”
Issac nods, standing up and offering a handshake
Isaac Cohen: “Thanks, Jordan. We can’t wait to see you fight. Good luck.”
Jordan stand along with Issac, grasping the handshake firmly, eyes still locked on Isaac
Jordan Parker: “Thanks, man. It’s gonna be a hell of a night.”
The scene ends with Jordan walking out of the room, his gaze intense and focused, as Isaac watches him go—knowing that UGP 63 is about to witness a possible fight-of-the-year candidate.
