ONE ON ONE FT. MASON LAMBERT
[It’s something in the air with these events hosted by Union Grand Prix. The exciting world of mixed martial arts brings an undefined taste of blood and entertainment that no other sport can produce. With UGP 66 on the horizon, the long awaited return to the rising sun in Japan makes it quite exciting to be on the other side of the world for many fighters on the card to showcase their talent. The circumstance is definitely the case for one fighter who has been one of the newest additions to the middleweight roster. With his opening fight possibly setting the tone for the event, it was clear more insight was needed to see where his mind was at.
The JIS OMIYA lounge is a place of class and prosperity, honed to highlight the beauty of nightlife in the Japanese culture but also to bring a sense of calm before the storm. On the balcony to highlight the city full of lights under the moon, Kayla Chapman is dressed to the tee as she sits down on a little lounge chair receiving the cue from the production team that the interview is ready to go. She turns to the camera with a bright and professional smile on her face speaking in her tone of confidence.]
KAYLA CHAPMAN: “Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining me today on another edition of One-on-One. We are in the city of Tokyo, Japan, and loving the hospitality it offers us as we are preparing for UGP 66: Sokolov vs. Momo’a II. However, we have a very special guest who brings an unique personality but also one of the best strikers in the middleweight division. Joining me in making his debut on the pay-per-view event against Shintaro Okano is none other than Mason “Homegrown” Lambert!”
[A camera angle transitions to show Mason sitting down on a chair but he’s dressed in a plain v-neck white tee, baggy jeans and timberland boots on. He smiles at the camera and leans forward, bracing his forearms on his legs to look at Kayla and the production team.]
MASON LAMBERT: “Yeah, thanks for having me Kayla. I just tried the Sake here and it’s pretty good. Fuck man, they got some good beer around here but I’m not gonna drink crazy because I have a fight to prepare for and want to make sure I beat his head into the mat. Are you enjoying your time out here? This city is fucking awesome!”
[Kayla is a little taken back from Mason’s immediate energy but she’s loving the personality shining no matter where he goes.]
KAYLA CHAPMAN: “Yes, Tokyo never fails to make me feel like home. The culture is beautiful and I love coming here every time. Since we’re in Tokyo, have you had any chances to visit and explore?”
MASON LAMBERT: “I tried to go see some Samurai shit or Sumo Wrestling. I just want to go sightseeing and learn about different cultures. Hell, you know it’s nothing wrong with learning more about the world, especially when you get to experience the different shit it offers you. My time in Tokyo has been fucking awesome but I’m really looking forward to Sunday.”
KAYLA CHAPMAN: “Before we get into about Sunday, the last time we saw you was at Boss Fight 51 and you won your debut against Armando Moretti. How have things changed since your debut win?”
[Mason shrugged his shoulders.]
MASON LAMBERT: “Nothing much. Other than just enjoying my camp and training, I’ve been working on my defense, counters and footwork but also my grappling too. Man, grappling is fucking something else. I’d rather stand on my feet and strike all day.”
KAYLA CHAPMAN: “You’ve been training at the Holmes MMA and Wrestling Academy for quite a while now. How has that helped your skills and training leading up to UGP 66?”
MASON LAMBERT: “They’re fucking awesome Kayla. We have a lot of great fighters and coaches. It’s a mix of everything. Striking, grappling, experience and diversity. I’m close with Robin, that’s my boy, so grappling and wrestling is very new to me but I’m learning. We got some very strong strikers and striking coaches. Like I said, I’m fucking ready to go and knock the fuck out of Shintaro Okano.”
[She appreciates the raw honesty and intensity from Mason.]
KAYLA CHAPMAN: “You’re the opening fight against Shintaro Okano and he’s the hometown favorite. He’s a pretty strong striker too. Is that going to have any effect on you for the fight?”
MASON LAMBERT: “Fuck no! I don’t care if he was in Japan or back in the United States. A fight is a fight Kayla. I’m here to win and beat him down until he shits himself. Yeah, I saw his last fight against Sam Steele and he was struggling. He makes his mistakes and can’t handle when the pressure is on him. Is he tough? Yeah. You’re only tough for so long and I’m going to walk his little ass down and piss blood on him.”
[The answer from Mason Lambert was one that was colorful and completely caught off guard. Kayla wasn’t expecting that gore coded answer but sitting in front of him, she felt his conviction but it was time to wrap up.]
KAYLA CHAPMAN: “Thank you Mason for joining us. Any last words?”
MASON LAMBERT: “I need another round of that Sake!”
[Mason gets up and just walks out of the scene with her looking a little confused from the behavior but she shrugs and smiles at the camera.]
KAYLA CHAPMAN: “Well I guess he’s ready for UGP 66: Sokolov vs. Momo’a II. Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining me and be prepared to watch UGP 66: Sokolov vs. Momo’a II!”
[The transition away from the live interview now reverts back to the promotional package video for the event fading away into the end.]
