STORYLINE DEVELOPMENTS
The lights at Korakuen Hall had barely settled into the rhythm of Ryūjin FC’s return before the tournament began, reminding everyone that seeding is only a theory at this stage. Riku Sato opened the night by squeaking past former Union GP fighter Ito Yoshito in a tightly contested split decision, an underdog victory that initially felt like a footnote. By the time the card reached its final three fights, it had become the first line in a much stranger story. Takahashi Katsuyoshi and Zhao Meilin advanced on decisions, while Kalani Teva delivered one of the evening’s more emphatic statements by stopping Thura Myint with a second round head kick. Liu Zhenkai also moved on, outworking Niran Sombat over three rounds. Osaki Tatsui then put away Kalani Fa’atoa in the second, while Ryohei Nakamura survived Kyaw Zin Htet in another split decision. Solid tournament work, perhaps. Nothing yet suggested what was coming.

Then Ryūjin’s predicted hierarchy began to collapse. Han Jisoo walked into Korakuen Hall as the eighth seed against longtime veteran Masato Endo and walked out with a second round rear naked choke, the first major shock of the night. Kohinoor Dey followed, and this one carried a little more weight. After looking green as her record indicates in her split decision win over former Scarlet FC strawweight champion Sunny Kunchai in the EVEREST × RYŪJIN: ALOHA play-in card, Dey looked like an entirely different fighter against top seeded Xia Yan. She was composed, aggressive, and unwilling to give the veteran the space she needed. The split decision was enough. And then Yan Qingtian completed the wreckage. With only one professional fight on his record, the eighth seed didn’t simply survive Robbie Coleman, he looked dangerous from the opening seconds, forcing the seasoned middleweight backward and eventually overwhelming him with punches late in the second round. What began as the return of Ryūjin FC’s championship tournament ended as something far more memorable. Three #8 seeds. Three fallen favorites. Suddenly, Ryūjin FC’s championship picture is no longer about who was supposed to win, it’s about who is still standing.
