BACKSTORY
The younger daughter of a former Muay Thai champion, Sunisa and her older sister Dara only ever knew one life: combat sports. But they took drastically different paths–where Dara was the more patient of the two, and developed a knack for grappling, Sunisa was overly eager to dive head-first into the Muay Thai waters.
Sunny found early success in Muay Thai, but mercurial as she is, she felt “limited” by only training in stand-up fighting–so she transitioned to MMA. Grappling didn’t come nearly as easily to her, and she struggled at first, but eventually she felt confident enough to take fights. Both she and Dara would debut with the short-lived SCARLET Fighting Championships, where Sunny would win a one-night, eight-woman tournament to become the first and only Strawweight Champion.
After taking time off following the closing of SCARLET, she expressed interest in joining Ryujin FC, under Union Grand Prix’s “Big 4” initiative.
