BOSS FIGHT XL: PETERSON vs RODRIGUEZ

ROUND ONE: The referee in charge, Archie Driscoll, signals the start of the bout as the bell rings. Alex Cox and Benji Meyers show each other respect as they touch gloves then circle around the center of the cage. Both fighters feint punches and show off their footwork, trying to gain an advantage. Cox stumbles back from a shot from Meyers and has a small cut on his left cheek. Meyers launches some good leg kicks, but Cox checks them with ease. Cox tries a hook to the body, but Meyers dodges it. Cox launches a liver kick, but Meyers blocks it and pushes his opponent back. Meyers tries to take advantage with some nice shots that stun Cox. A right hand from Meyers surprises Cox, causing his left cheek to swell. Meyers pushes Cox and moves away to recover his breath. A brutal combination from Meyers leaves Cox in a bad way with wobbly legs and a small laceration on his chin. Cox fights back with a brilliant combination, but Meyers avoids it with his dodging skills. Cox paws at Meyers, but Meyers counters with solid punches. Cox’s forehead begins to swell and he has a small cut on his forehead. Cox seems groggy and uncoordinated. Meyers takes out his mouthpiece to catch his breath while Cox’s face is covered in blood and he may have difficulty seeing. Meyers lands a shot that leaves Cox staggered and should try to finish the fight. Meyers swings for the fences and lands a hit that almost breaks Cox’s jaw. Meyers circles around Cox and charges at him throwing flurries of punches. Cox is rocked and falls to the ground unconscious from a surgical strike from Meyers, earning Meyers the victory.

Isaac Cohen’s Opinion: If there ever was a time to use the cliche “must win” fight, this was it. Both Benji Meyers and Alex Cox were promising prospects that were soaring up the rankings until they both took a nosedive with a three fight skid. Although their losses are against very formidable opponents, a four fight losing streak is not something you want associated with your name. Benji was the aggressor right out of the gate and dictated the pace with relentless striking. He may not improve the number next to his name with this win, but it should keep him from plummeting down the ranks any further and get the masses reinvested in the young prospect.

ROUND ONE: Referee Colin Davenport presides over the action as Maddox Moon and the debuting Regis Pierre Paul are set to square off. From the beginning, both fighters show each other a great deal of respect. Moon quickly makes his presence known by faking a punch and taking down RPP with a slick takedown. Moon quickly moves into open guard, attempting to finish the fight with a leg lock, but RPP manages to break the lock. Despite Moon’s efforts to control the situation, RPP is able to escape from the full mount and get back to full guard. The two fighters continue to battle on the ground, with Moon attempting to force RPP to open his guard, but RPP proves to be a tough competitor and breaks free from any holds. The fight continues standing, with Moon securing a Thai clinch and exchanging grappling attempts. Moon manages to pull guard and works his way into locking in a gogoplata, but RPP fights his way out of it. In that process though, Moon goes for an armbar from the bottom and RPP almost gets caught deep in it, but once again fights his way free. The back and forth struggle yields a stalemate from here and both fighters are stood up. Back on their feet, Moon keeps the pressure on with the slick submission attempts, this time launching himself in the air with a flying triangle. RPP gets caught deep in it and looks to be in serious trouble, but he picks Moon high up in the air and slams him down to the mat to break up the submission. As the round ticks down to its final seconds, Moon jumps and scissors Pierre Paul’s left leg in a flying heel hook attempt. Moon has the submission secured and RPP’s leg looks to be hyperextended. The crowd is going wild as they sense a tap here, but RPP shows his toughness and continues to fight as he’s eventually saved by the horn.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Moon

ROUND TWO: The second round starts with Moon moving forward, pressing the action, and showing off his wrestling skills. The two clinched, with Pierre Paul grappling and launching some wild punches. Moon took advantage of his opponent’s mistake and tried to finish him off with a RNC, but was unsuccessful. Pierre Paul followed with a crisp uppercut and hard jab that rocked Moon, causing him to stumble back. RPP lands a couple more big shots to the head and body, causing Moon to shoot in for a sweep single. Moon catches Pierre Paul’s far ankle, leading to the slick takedown. The two continued to scramble for position on the ground, with Pierre Paul eventually ending up in full mount over Moon. Moon tried to roll to his side and trap Pierre Paul in his guard, but was unsuccessful. The two continued to scramble until the referee decided to stand them up. The fight continued with a brief punching exchange, and Moon hit a single leg takedown to bring the fight back to the ground. Moon was in side mount over Pierre Paul and attempted to pass to mount, but Pierre Paul created space and quickly scrambled back to his feet. Moon started spamming RPP with leg kicks, then tried to switch it up with a high kick, but it fell short of the mark. Moon then goes back to the well and hits another single leg takedown. The two scrambled on the ground until the horn signaled the end of the round. The fighters shook hands and headed back to their corners.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Pierre Paul (19-19 Push)

ROUND THREE: The third and final round begins and everyone in the building senses that the scorecards are all tied up. From the start, Moon scored a single leg takedown, but after a failed attempt at securing an Americana, RPP was able to scramble back to his feet before Moon could get anything else going. The two fighters then stood in the center of the cage, sizing each other up as they threw jabs and crosses. RPP landed a big hook to Moon’s ribs, showing his mastery in the striking game. Meanwhile, Moon faked a punch and moved aside, showing his footwork and agility. The fight moved to the ground after Moon ate another big hook to the body that forced him to set up another single leg takedown. RPP tries to scramble to his feet, but he leaves himself wide open for Moon to gator roll into a north-south position and secures a D’Arce Choke. RPP fought his way out of the choke and the two fighters continued to grapple, exchanging holds and reversals as they tried to gain the advantage. Moon was eventually in full mount over RPP, trying an armbar, but RPP broke the lock and took control, only for a brief moment. Moon closed his guard to regain control before moving to high guard for an armbar. RPP slips free and gets to his feet and Moon follows him up. The final moments of the round concluded with a brief punching exchange, with Moon eating some solid shots, to cap off a fight that was a showcase of technical prowess, athleticism, and heart.

Isaac Cohen’s Opinion:  Very tightly contested bout for the full fifteen minutes in this clash of styles fight. In my eyes, round one was clearly Moon and round three was clearly Pierre Paul. That second round was the deciding factor, as we saw the tide slowly shift from Moon’s rigorous grappling to Pierre Paul’s thumping strikes. Even though I had scored the fight for Regis, I’m not screaming robbery, as I can see the argument for a 10-8 score in that first round. The one judge giving round three to Moon though has me scratching my head a bit. Not an ideal debit for RPP, but the fact that he held his own against one of the best grapplers in Union is something you can hang your hat on.

ROUND ONE: The Middleweight Bout between Alfie O’Shea and Tyler Cage was an electrifying showcase of mixed martial arts. As the fight began, Cage came out swinging with a powerful low kick, which Alfie blocked. Throughout the fight, Cage seemed to have the upper hand, landing some punishing blows that stunned Alfie. However, Alfie quickly regained his composure and began fighting back with a flurry of punches that landed with glancing blows. The fight was punctuated by some incredible moments, such as a massive haymaker from Alfie that snapped Cage’s head back, and a wild exchange of punches that had the crowd on their feet. The fight continued to ebb and flow, with both fighters grappling and trying to take the other down. Alfie managed to secure a great takedown, but Cage showed impressive balance and control, switching to full mount and trying to pound Alfie into submission. Alfie did his best to escape from the full mount, but Cage remained in control, looking to begin some ground and pound. The round ended with Cage in full mount, trying to maintain his position.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Cage

ROUND TWO: The second round begins with both fighters exchanging strikes, with Alfie attempting to cut off Cage with his punches, but Cage’s straight right hand was a force to be reckoned with. Alfie, however, was not one to be underestimated and showed off his skills with a roundhouse punch and a front kick that Cage was able to block. O’Shea pulled guard after a failed takedown attempt and the fight went to the ground, with both fighters trying to gain the upper hand. Cage moved from closed guard to half guard to full mount, raining down elbows on Alfie’s ribs. Alfie tried to escape and counter, but Cage was able to maintain his dominant position. The fight continued on their feet after a stalemate, with Cage charging at Alfie and landing huge shots that rocked Alfie and left him with a small cut on his cheek. The round ended with Bruno Alves separating the fighters at the sound of the horn.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Cage (20-18 Cage)

ROUND THREE: The third and final round started with crisp strikes from Alfie, but Cage quickly took control with a bone-shattering straight right hand. Tyler Cage then took the fight to the ground, displaying his grappling skills as he moved from open guard to half guard, to side mount, and finally to full mount. Despite Alfie’s attempts to escape, Tyler maintained control and was eventually able to take Alfie’s back with two hooks in. Cage then started looking for a way to finish the fight, but a foul was called as he appeared to have poked Alfie in the eye. Despite this setback, Cage was able to isolate Alfie’s arm and lock in an armbar, forcing Alfie to tap out. Tyler Cage displayed impressive all around skills in this bout, earning himself a well-deserved victory, despite the lack of pro level experience.

Isaac Cohen’s Opinion: Impressive debit win for the crossover athlete, Tyler Cage. In this fight he showcased a well-rounded approach in all phases of the fight game, and secured the submission victory late in the third round, also proving he has the cardio. His name value from the pro wrestling world brings interest, but this performance brings intrigue to see how far he can go in the MMA world.

ROUND ONE: Magdalena Moruga and Redd Lennox took center stage with referee Lars Levy overseeing the action for this Bantamweight Championship Grand Prix Bout. Moruga tried to turn the tide with a flying knee, but Lennox was quick to defend and counter. The two fighters engaged in a wild exchange of punches, with Lennox getting the better of the exchange. Lennox saw an opportunity to counter Moruga with a hook that set up a textbook takedown, putting the latter on the ground. Lennox was in open guard over Moruga, but the fight was stood up by the referee due to a lack of activity. Lennox delivered a big right hand that shook Moruga, but the latter retaliated with a bone-shattering straight left hand. However, Lennox was quick to duck under and counter. The round ended with Lennox taking Moruga to the ground and the referee separating the fighters as the horn sounded.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Lennox

ROUND TWO: The two fighters engaged in a back-and-forth battle, exchanging punches, kicks, and grappling attempts. Moruga started the bout with a low kick that was blocked by Lennox, who looked to counter. Lennox managed to dodge Moruga’s hook to the body and dominated a brief punching exchange. Moruga tried to regain control with a flurry of punches but only managed to land glancing blows. Meanwhile, Lennox continued to connect with solid punches and combos, rocking Moruga and causing a laceration on her cheek. The two continued to engage in a wild exchange of punches, with Lennox getting the better of the exchange. Moruga’s face was covered in blood, and she had trouble seeing as she wiped the blood from her eyes. As the fight resumed, both fighters continued to engage in an intense battle, with Lennox landing a superb haymaker that sent Moruga stumbling backwards. The round ended with Moruga’s mouth bruised and her face covered in blood, a testament to the punishment she had received from Lennox in this round.

Isaac Cohen’s Opinion: If I’m being honest, I did not expect this fight to play out the way that it did. I envisioned a lot of action, but I didn’t think it would be so one-sided. Redd Lennox has made the most out of her unique opportunity on DRIP 9 and will now advance in the Bantamweight Championship Grand Prix quarterfinals to face former Champ Dallas Meechan, where she’s in the running to make a huge splash if she can pull off an upset for the ages.

ROUND ONE: The first round got off to a strong start with both fighters showing a ton of respect for one another. Cortez Gaines started off with a crisp uppercut followed by a hard jab, but Donaldson was able to deflect most of the blows. However, Gaines wasn’t holding back and landed a bone-shattering straight left hand that had Donaldson reeling. Donaldson quickly regained his footing and started to show off his footwork and grappling skills, clinching with Gaines. Both fighters were locked in a clinch and throwing punches, with Gaines landing some bone-breaking shots to Donaldson’s ribs. This led to a frenzy of hooks and body shots from Donaldson, who pushed Gaines against the fence and continued the rain of blows. Gaines was in trouble and tried to break the clinch, but Donaldson wouldn’t let him go. The fight continued with both fighters exchanging punches, with Donaldson landing some brutal shots to Gaines’ face. Gaines was bleeding from a cut on his right eye and his face was covered in blood, making it difficult for him to see. Donaldson continued to rain punches, putting Gaines in a world of hurt. Gaines tried to cool down the fight by stepping back, but Donaldson wasn’t backing down. He launched a stiff jab, and Jordan Ripley had to separate the fighters as the round came to an end. The cutman had a lot of work to do on Gaines’ face, which was bruised, swollen, and bleeding profusely.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Donaldson

ROUND TWO: From the start of the second round, Donaldson showed excellent footwork, faking a punch and creating space for himself. This put him in a prime position to counter Gaines’ attacks and land some powerful punches. The two fighters exchanged blows, with Donaldson connecting with several punches. The fight then moved into a clinch, with Donaldson pushing Gaines against the fence and unleashing a barrage of unanswered uppercuts that left Gaines staggered and bloody. Despite the punishment, Gaines refused to give up, leading with a punch and trying to defend himself. However, Donaldson was relentless, avoiding Gaines’ attack and landing a crushing counter uppercut. This left Gaines with bruises and cuts on his chin and mouth. The two fighters continued to exchange blows, with Donaldson landing a hard low kick to Gaines’ right thigh. The fight reached its climax when Donaldson launched an incredible haymaker that snapped Gaines’ head backwards. Despite this, Gaines still tried to defend himself, but the punishment was too much. Donaldson dodged a strike and countered with a crushing hook that nearly lifted Gaines off the ground. At this point, referee Jordan Ripley had seen enough, jumped in to stop the fight, saving Gaines from any further punishment.

Isaac Cohen’s Opinion: For most of its existence, the Union GP Heavyweight Division has been ruled by the biggest of big men in the sport. Here recently, ushered in by the likes of Kennard Rozier and Gauge Lattimore, the smaller, lighter, and most notably faster Heavyweights are starting to take over. Dominic Donaldson displayed some fierce and fast hands that easily toppled his opponent inside two rounds. With this brilliant performance, you can expect to see a number next to Dominic’s name in the newest edition of the Global Rankings.

ROUND ONE: Rachel Parsons and Ignacio Zambrano are off to a high-stakes start as they step into the cage. The referee in charge, Ron Anderson, calls for the fight to begin. The two fighters are sizing each other up, studying their opponent’s defense, looking for any weaknesses. Parsons starts off aggressive with a head kick that gets Zambrano’s attention, but a follow up head kick misses narrowly. Meanwhile, Zambrano finds an opening in Parsons’ defense and throws a punch that connects. As the fight continues, Parsons unleashes a rapid series of punches, taking Zambrano from one end of the cage to the other, resulting in a small laceration on his left eye. Despite the setback, Zambrano remains poised, avoiding dangerous strikes and countering with solid straight punches. Parsons, buzzing from the big shots, shakes off the cobwebs and continues to show off her boxing skills with a one-two combo that lands on Zambrano’s face. The combination has Zambrano’s corner looking worried, as Parsons continues to rain down punches on him. Zambrano tries to fend off the attacks, but Parsons is relentless. Her feints set up a textbook inside leg kick that hyperextends Zambrano’s leg. Two vicious hooks connect in rapid succession, sending Zambrano crashing to the ground. Ron Anderson steps in, calling for Zambrano to defend himself, but ultimately stops the fight, giving Parsons the victory.

Isaac Cohen’s Opinion: You can pretty much copy and paste what I said about the first Bantamweight GP Bout tonight and put it here, and add the fact that Rachel Parsons did it in the first frame. This is the momentum boost Parsons needed after dropping two tough decision losses back-to-back. “Razor” Rachel Parsons certainly earned her nickname tonight with those surgical strikes and hopes to continue the trend when she goes up against a fellow Everest alum and champion, Eugenie Bombelles in the quarterfinals of the Bantamweight Championship Grand Prix.

ROUND ONE: The crowd is on their feet as the bell rings, signaling the start of the highly anticipated Co-Main Event Bout between Bobby Barnett and former Heavyweight Champion, Donnie Calabrese. The referee, Jack Gibbs, watches on as the two fighters step forward, ready to battle it out in the ring. Barnett starts the fight with a body shot, but Calabrese quickly dodges and retaliates with a powerful cross that lands directly on Barnett’s cheek. The impact sends Barnett stumbling and he falls to the mat. The crowd gasps as they watch Calabrese deliver a series of jabs, followed by a massive hook that connects with Barnett’s cheek, leaving him laid out on the floor. Calabrese’s corner rushes into the ring to celebrate their fighter’s impressive victory. The damage inflicted to Barnett is evident, with his cheek significantly swollen and a small laceration on display.

Isaac Cohen’s Opinion: Tick. Tick. BOOM! Donnie Calabrese blows the roof off in his hometown Chicago with a record breaking knockout. It has been tough watching a Union original and fan favorite like Dog Face slide out of the rankings, but this right here is just what he needed. An emphatic knockout victory against a ranked opponent puts Calabrese back on the right path. Is there life left in another title run for Donnie? That remains to be seen but one thing is for sure when Dog Face Donnie is on the card, you’re in for a wild ride.

ROUND ONE: The first round of the Main Event Bout between Abbie Peterson and 2Face Rodriguez was a heated and intense battle. The referee, Darrell Stevens, kept a close eye on the fighters as they exchanged blows and tried to gain the upper hand. Peterson opened the round with a fake punch, but 2Face was able to avoid it and pushed Peterson away. 2Face tried to dictate the pace, but Peterson was able to counteract with a double collar Thai clinch. The two fighters were tied in a clinch several times throughout the round, with Peterson connecting with some brutal shots and 2Face trying to cool down the fight. There was a wild exchange of punches, with Peterson getting the best of it, including a nasty low kick that potentially hyper-extended 2Face’s knee. Both fighters missed several strikes, but Peterson was able to land a few blows. The round ended with Peterson throwing another low kick and 2Face blocking it, giving 2Face a little something to think about between rounds.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Peterson

ROUND TWO: Peterson started the round with a solid kick to the leg, but 2Face quickly checked it and pushed his opponent back. In a thrilling exchange of moves, both fighters showed their speed and agility as they faked, kicked, and punched each other. Peterson went on the offensive with a vicious high kick that landed, but 2Face countered with a few punches of his own. Despite the punishment, Peterson kept pushing forward, trying to land a spinning back kick. The fight was a back-and-forth battle, with both fighters taking turns trying to take control of the match. Peterson showed her lightning-fast low kick, but 2Face was quick to block it with his leg. 2Face tried to grapple and put Peterson in a double underhook, but Peterson tried to shrug her way out of the clinch. The round was an intense display of skills and determination from both fighters, but it was 2Face who managed to retain his position in the end. The round ended with both fighters taking a deep breath and getting ready for the next round.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Peterson (20-18 Peterson)

ROUND THREE: The third round is intense as both fighters are exchanging strikes, showing their technical prowess. Abbie Peterson lands a solid low kick but 2Face deflects it. 2Face is not showing a great technique with his low kick, but it finds its way to Peterson’s thigh. Peterson lands a crushing flying knee that sends 2Face’s mouthpiece flying out of his mouth. Peterson is trying to keep the pace fast and aggressive, but 2Face is slowing it down with his circles around the center of the cage. The fighters are clinching and exchanging knees, but 2Face manages to push away Peterson. The two then engage in a wild exchange of punches, connecting and missing at the same time. 2Face wants to take advantage of the situation and tries to clinch, but Peterson breaks away and launches a great knee that sends 2Face stumbling backwards before the end of the round. The fighters head back to their corners, shaking hands and catching their breath. Both Peterson and 2Face are determined to come back stronger in the next round.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Peterson (30-27 Peterson)

ROUND FOUR: The two fighters started the round by exchanging some fakes and jabs, trying to find an opening in each other’s defense. 2Face, known for his high cardio and fearsome clinch strikes, quickly took control of the fight and clinched with Peterson, unleashing a series of punches that left his opponent bruised and staggered. Peterson, however, refused to go down easily and kept trying to find a way to turn the tide. She threw a liver kick that 2Face blocked and pushed aside, and landed a few solid kicks to the leg. But every time Peterson tried to get inside, 2Face was ready with a counter punch that connected with stunning impact. The action in the cage was fast-paced and intense, with both fighters showing their determination to come out on top. But in the end, it was 2Face’s incredible out of nowhere haymaker that ended the fight. Peterson’s head snapped back, and she fell to the ground, unable to continue.

Isaac Cohen’s Opinion: This fight was looking like it was heading toward a five round decision victory for Abbie Peterson, until it very suddenly wasn’t. 2Face Rodriguez was connecting more throughout the four rounds, but they weren’t doing the kind of damage that Abbie Peterson was dishing out with her hands and legs. Rodriguez was showing the war he endured on his face, but in the end, he walks out of this Main Event Bout victorious over a former Title Challenger, making many people believe that the Kratos Kombat Sports prospect may be next in line for a Title fight.
