BACKSTORY
Jalen Briggs grew up watching his father Darnell Joshua Briggs, aka “Deebo” or “DJ” to his family, become a successful MMA fighter largely on the regional scene. Despite his father’s successes, Jalen was not immediately drawn to the sport. Instead, he focused on his studies and played basketball in high school. However, the more he learned about both the business and sport aspects of the game when he would go the fights and get the behind the scene looks, Jalen made the decision to pursue a career in MMA, focusing mainly on Taekwondo. Determined to make a name for himself, Jalen began training at the young age of 15. He joined Gold Blooded MMA, a gym run by his father’s longtime training partner Gauge Lattimore, and quickly made a name for himself as a dedicated and hardworking student of the game. Unlike his father, who had taken the long road to the big league, Jalen had the connections and got the opportunity of a lifetime at a very young age. He quickly began to make a name for himself on the amateur circuit, and soon turned pro. Despite his early success as a professional, Jalen remains humble and quiet, always looking to improve his skills and learn from his teammates as well as his opponents.
