STRENGTHS
+ Come On and Slam: Whether it’s Judo hip throws and foot sweeps, or a powerful double leg takedown, or even a good old fashioned German Suplex, Sadie can–and will–take you down.

+ Like a Swarm of Bees: Think early-days Vitor Belfort; Sadie almost never throws just one punch. It’s always combinations, and they’re surprisingly quick for a traditional grappler.

+ Unorthodox, to Say the Least: Let’s be blunt–Sadie’s a 10th Planet product. “Unorthodox” is the name of her game. And she takes it to the next level–she’s always looking for an opportunity to pull out some crazy submission that nobody else would go for.

WEAKNESSES
– Not So Disciplined Striker: Sadie’s striking is…well, it’s not the best. She’s not exactly wild, nor is she just recklessly swinging, but she’s far from the crisp, pinpoint striker that others are.

– Quit Hugging Me: Sadie isn’t big on clinch work. Particularly the Muay Thai clinch. If Sarah’s going out of her way to clinch up with you, one of two things has happened: one of you is pinned against the cage, or you rocked her. BAD.

– Wrong Way on a One Way Track: Literally everybody knows what Sadie’s gonna do–eventually, she’s gonna want you on the ground, and she’s either gonna wanna pound your face into mulch, or choke you out. It makes her easy to counter, if you’re good enough.

BACKSTORY
The second child born to an all-girl generation, Sarah Williams probably hasn’t turned out quite how her parents might’ve expected her to. Growing up, she was the one in her family that could be described as a tomboy–she was always out doing something, getting scraped and scratched and tackled and bumped. Her biggest obsession was professional wrestling, she dreamed of becoming a professional wrestler–to the point that she joined a wrestling club in Vancouver with a friend, because she thought it was training to become a pro wrestler, not an Olympic wrestling club.

Despite not being what she expected, it didn’t take her long to fall in love with the sport, and through it, she discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu–and, being the wild child she was, naturally she had to find the wildest way to train, so she joined 10th Planet Vancouver.

And from there? She was in.

Between wrestling and submission grappling, she was always looking for avenues to compete, always looking for a chance to test herself–until a freak injury during a snowboarding vacation blew out her left knee, and put her on the shelf for the best part of a year. Sat on the sidelines, she discovered MMA through the original iteration of MLC, ultimately being in the audience for Madrigal/Kane I, in Toronto.

Remember the obsession with pro wrestling? It kicked in again, this time with MMA, and Sarah was 100% convinced this is what she wanted to do. Already a purple belt by that point, she focused her training on Kickboxing, reasoning that’s where she needed the most help, and went to the point of taking amateur bouts to get a feel for stand-up competition. While they didn’t exactly go great for her (1 Split Decision win, 3 losses including 1 by TKO, and 1 draw), the results weren’t the point–the experience was.

She ultimately decided getting punched in the face wasn’t as scary as she expected, and decided to commit to it. She took a series of amateur bouts, all over Canada, in preparation for the opportunity to turn pro when AWC was formed. She won her first professional bout by submission despite taking multiple pokes to the eyes and suffering an ankle injury in the lead up to the fight, advancing in AWC’s Featherweight Championship tournament. She would be defeated in the second round by Abbie Peterson, by split decision, in her last fight under the AWC banner before the promotion stopped hosting events.

With AWC no longer running shows, Sadie took some time off to refocus and refine her skills before coming to Everest MMA’s Featherweight Division for season 2. The wrong side of two out of three decisions put Sadie on the outside looking in when it came to for the championship fight, but she kept working, and came back for season 3–where she scored 2 second round submission wins, and a draw with Masami Rose, to book a spot in the title fight for season 3. In contrast to her first fight with Masami, Sadie easily dominated the title fight, securing a triangle choke win in 75 seconds to claim the Featherweight Championship.
