UGP 33: HOWARD vs MEECHAN II
[The arena is littered with a fervent crowd that grows more impatient by the second for impending chaos. Red spotlights scan all through the building while laser lights and a brilliant white strobe light flutters on the main entrance stage.]
[The air, which hours ago was cool and fresh, now reeks with the toxic aroma of alcohol and that sweet leaf. The pyrotechnic explosives drown out the sounds of cheers from the crowd with each detonation, havoc has descended upon these grounds.]
[The stage of a bloody war is set. The conquerors envision nothing but execution towards success, while the meek is flooded with doubt. Down in the trenches, we are greeted with Bodie Sullivan and the return of Hall of Famer Jason Jackson, ready for their cue.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Ladies and gentlemen, the octagon is officially open for business! We are live exclusively on the Battleground Network here at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts for UGP 33! Hello everyone, I’m Bodie Sullivan and standing next to me is the man, the myth, the legend, and his first appearance on the sticks in 2022, Jason Jackson! It’s great to have you back in the booth, JJ!”
JASON JACKSON: “It’s great to be back, Uce. After that training camp for Vik, and the grueling fight we had, I took a bit of time off to spend some time with my wife and kids. Speaking of kids, we are actually expecting another one. I found out after the fight I’m going to have another mouth to feed and I would’ve announced it on Twitter but I’m perma-banned. Maybe Elon Musk can help me out now that he owns stock…”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Haha! Well congrats to both you and Lux on the baby, and I know twitter certainly misses you as well, but they get their Jason Jackson fix tonight, right? Getting right down to business though, we have another big card in store for all fight fans here tonight, with two, count ‘em, TWO championship fights headlining the card. To set the tone for the evening, we start things off with two Cruiserweight bouts that could really shake up the division. First up, José Meléndez takes on Mikael Ekström, then right after we have Reggie James taking on Alfie O’Shea. Both of these fights have some similarities in that we have two top tier contenders taking on two newcomers who are looking to establish themselves in the rankings. With the announcement earlier last week of Gauge Lattimore and Michael Santos already in the works, this is a prime time for these four fighters to send an ‘I got next’ statement to the top brass.”
JASON JACKSON: “Fresh meat on deck! Jose and Reggie have both proved that they are studs here in UGP and mainstays in their division. If I’m the newcomer, I’d be coming in here looking for a finish so that I could make an opening statement that can’t be denied. They will have their work cut out for them though. Can they rise to the occasion and make an impact out the gate? Or will they stumble instead of hitting the ground running? Time will tell. I would like to see the winners of these two fights face each other before they get the next crack at the champ though, especially if it’s one of the new cats. You gotta pay your dues before you earn the shot. Hashtag no free rides.”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Then in our featured undercard bout, we have a Bantamweight clash between Lena Lyons and Isabel Azevedo, who are ranked number two and three respectively in the division. With Gianna Howard and Dallas Meechan squaring off at the end of the night, this one is a bonafide title eliminator. Thugga has been on a tear since her last bid at the championship, and if she pulls out a win tonight, that makes four in a row and a solid case to push her into the title picture. On the other side, Izzy has been rolling in her own right, and she’s coming off a wild and spectacular KO finish that really changes the narrative of what she is capable of doing. She’s known for her world class BJJ, with three of her wins coming by submission, but now she revealed some sneaky knockout power and that has to be a big benefit for Azevedo as she gets set for the biggest fight in her career thus far.”
JASON JACKSON: “THUGGAAAAA. Lena and I go back quite a ways, Bodie. Former team mates at Slaughta, former opponents… I know firsthand how tough she is. She hit a skid there for a while where she was just in a slump. Maybe it was moving around and trying to figure out which gym to continue her career from. Maybe it was just the built up stress and exhaustion that comes with this life. Who knows? All that matters is the old Lena has emerged and she’s been on a mission. Standing in front of her is Izzy Azevedo and this girl is a killer in her own right. As you said, we are used to seeing her grappling skills shine in these fights, but her last time out sheeeeeeewwwww she shocked the world didn’t she? I didn’t think she had it in her like that. This is a true test for Izzy though. Lena is a fighter. By all definitions of the word. She’s a pioneer, an OG, and a future hall of famer herself. If Izzy can get a win here, especially a decisive one? That will elevate her stock through the roof. The winner here should ABSOLUTELY be next in line. No doubt. ”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “In our Co-Main Event, fellow teammates are set to collide as Travis Decker defends his Middleweight Title against a man who had been the face of the division for so long, the former two-time champion Robert Guilliman. There doesn’t seem to be much bad blood between the two, and it’s been a common sight to see fellow RK teammates square off. I envision this to be an old school classic, no frills brawl.
JASON JACKSON: “Yeah, no real beef at all sadly. What? Don’t look at me like that Bodie. Look, I like beef. I like hostility. I wanna see these guys talk that shit and then whoop each other’s asses. Respect each other after the fight. Meanwhile, we haven’t heard a peep from Robert Guilliman in almost a year. He must have gone to train on top of a mountain or something where he tends a flock of goats all day and doesn’t have cellphone reception. Then we have Travis Decker, who is too much of a nice guy for his own good. Don’t get me wrong, I love him to death and he’s made a tremendous comeback in his career, but I miss Decker VS Zion. He should thank Zion honestly, for bringing some heat to their rivalry and firing him up like he did to give Decker the passion for this shit again. I love that version of Decker more. We need more of that Travis. Not the “I’m just happy to be here” shit. We’ve seen what you have inside of you Trav. You have that killer instinct. Go out there, extend your finger in that goat farmer’s face, and then knock him the fuck out. That will impress me. Bring some balls to this middleweight division. ”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “And finally in our Main Event of the evening, the immediate rematch between the newly crowned Bantamweight Champion Gianna Howard takes on the former champion Dallas Meechan. In their first meeting, fight fans were gifted with an absolutely stunning performance from Gianna Howard, who dominated the longest reigning 135 pound champion en route to a second round knockout victory. It was a night to remember at UGP 29, where we witnessed not one, not two, but three new champions crowned that night. Will history repeat itself and have The Ghost reign supreme and usher in a new era, or will The Playboy recapture his crown and regain the tight grip of the division he previously had for 574 days?”
JASON JACKSON: “I don’t know how it’s going to go, but either way? This has the potential to be the runner up for fight of the year, Bodie. I say runner up because Vik and I have that on lock, but if we hadn’t fought? They have the potential to take the crown. The last time they met was a shock. A lot of folks counted Gianna out. Meechan had dominated for so long the notion of him losing was unheard of. The Ghost silenced the nay-sayers though when she put on a masterful performance and took the throne. This is where we see if that Loss shook Dally, or if it motivated him to come back like a bat out of hell and take what’s his. I don’t know who is walking out with the strap in this one, but I can’t WAIT to watch it unfold. This is my pick for fight of the night. ”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “And with that folks, it’s time to turn our attention inside the octagon where the mouthpiece of MMA awaits. Mister Mike Dempsey, take it away!”

And now, this opening contest is scheduled for three rounds in the Union Grand Prix Cruiserweight Division! Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Freestyle Fighter holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 9-4. He stands 6’2”, and weighing in at 225 pounds. He is from Oslo, Norway, presenting the number six ranked Cruiserweight Contender in the World, Mikael “The Norwegian Nightmare” Ekström!
[Mikael Ekström looks calm in his corner, but knows he has a tough fight ahead of him.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Kicking things off tonight we begin with our first of two back-to-back Cruiserweight bouts. Up first, we have the Norwegian Viking Mikael Ekström making his Union GP debut. Ekström was on the first DRIP card, and actually competed against Alfie O’Shea, who fights next. Despite O’Shea winning the fight, Dante Reed was blown away by both fighters’ heart and tenacity and decided to offer both guys a contract. Now, Ekström has a chance to prove to the boss that he made the right choice by giving him this opportunity.”
JASON JACKSON: “A BIG chance, Bodie. He’s opening up UGP 33. He’s setting the tone for these beautiful goddamn Bostonians. Listen, these folks aren’t drunk yet. They are just getting going… So if you come out here and open the show with a lackluster fight? (clicks teeth) You don’t wanna get boo’d out of the TD Garden. That’s all I’m saying. You better come in here and lay a Viking asswhoppin’ on this man Jose Melendez, because you got your WORK cut OUT for you tonight Mikael.”
MIKE DEMPSEY: “And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Kickboxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 4-2. He stands 5’9”, and weighing in at 225 pounds. He is from San Diego, California, presenting the number four ranked Cruiserweight Contender in the World, José “Gas Tank” Meléndez!
[José Meléndez looks very relaxed in his corner and is clearly the crowd favorite as the fans boom with thunderous cheers.]
JASON JACKSON: “Speak of the Devil.”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “It’s always great to see José Meléndez in action. He’s become a fan favorite with his high volume offense and willingness to stand in the phonebooth and just let the fists fly. Meléndez started off ripping four wins in a row and making heads turn. He was on the cusp of a title shot until the hype train got derailed in the Triple C Grand Prix. He’s lost to Lovelie Saint-Cyr and Michael Santos in his last two fights, so a big win is very much needed here tonight to get him back on track in the right direction.”
JASON JACKSON: “I mean, both of those guys are game fighters though. Both big names. Both dangerous guys. Hey, there are worse people to lose to, right? They are no Rob Jones. You’re right though. He doesn’t want to fall into a slump. Then it starts to get to you mentally. Jose has to come out here and show them just how far that “Gas Tank” can carry him and he’s gotta welcome this newcomer with a bang and show him who’s house this is.”

[José Meléndez and Mikael Ekström touch gloves in the center to get this fight started. Just a few seconds into the fight, Meléndez launches a head kick that nearly ends the fight in the blink of an eye! Ekström wobbles on his feet as he backpedals out of range. Meléndez hunts him down and connects with a massive liver kick that folds Ekström like dirty laundry. Meléndez continues to target the body with some punishing hooks, and finishes off the flurry with a big uppercut.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “OOOOH!.”
JASON JACKSON: “OH SHIT! New kid on the block is rocked early! Melendez is pouring it on here looking for an early finish!”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Meléndez is trying to knock the big man down a peg or two to his level. Mikael Ekström is in big trouble right now!”
[Ekström tries to circle away, but Meléndez stays close and launches a middle kick that wrecks Ekström’s ribs. Ekström is completely focusing on protecting his body, leaving his face wide open. Meléndez unloads with a furious hook that drops Ekström to the mat! Meléndez plays it smart in this situation, opting not to try and jump inside Ekström’s guard. Instead, he keeps in range to light up Ekström’s legs with some brutal kicks to his thighs. Meléndez connects with about a half dozen of them before he steps off and allows him to stand back up. Ekström is hesitant, but the referee stops the action to direct him back to his feet.]
JASON JACKSON: “The ref is gonna stand them up here, and it doesn’t look good for our Viking friend here Bodie. He is hesitant to even stand up. Welcome to the big leagues, Uce. Get your ass up and fight.”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “José Meléndez is not the most imposing fighter in a physical sense, but man he generates a ton of force behind those hands.”
[Both fighters circle toward the center of the octagon and Ekström is noticeably limping and still holding his side. Meléndez launches another middle kick that wrenches Ekström once again. Meléndez rushes in to capitalize and now the two exchange wildly. Meléndez is in full control, dodging traffic while connecting with several big shots. Meléndez circles away and ends up baiting a frustrated Ekström, who gets greeted with a big counter left. Meléndez continues to move aside and launches a furious low kick that connects on the swollen welt on Ekström’s thigh. Meléndez flenches for another low kick but switches it up in the blink of an eye and lands a devastating head kick!]
JASON JACKSON: “ANOTHER head kick lands! Jose is just picking him apart right now. They are going to stop this soon. Save this man from any further damage.”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “That high volume attack is just too much for Mikael Ekström right now. If he doesn’t do something soon, the referee is going to stop this or he’s going to get knocked out.”
[Ekström eats the kick and tries to circle away and cool the fight down, but Meléndez has other plans in mind. Meléndez cuts off Ekström and lands a haymaker that busts his lip open. Meléndez and Ekström then step into each other and engage in a wild exchange of punches! Meléndez is getting the best of the exchange as he lands a few more blows while Ekström throws a sluggish combo. Meléndez ducks under and catches him with a counter straight! Ekström swings again, only to get countered once more!]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Meléndez is rolling on all cylinders. I’d be shocked if Ekström sees the end of this round.”
JASON JACKSON: “ Just a one sided fight as Melendez pieces Ekström up with ease. The ref is watching this one closely.”
[Ekström is in serious trouble now as his eyes are beginning to swell. Meléndez finds an opening and launches a big hook that looks like it could have broken some ribs. The two exchange punches but Meléndez continues to be in the driver seat of this fight. In a move of desperation, Ekström shoots in for a takedown, but Meléndez hops back and delivers a powerful kick to his head! Ekström crumbles and the referee has seen enough and decides to call off the fight!]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “AND THIS ONE IS ALL OVER!”
JASON JACKSON: “ THAT’S IT! HE’S DONE! WOOOO. JOSE MELENDEZ LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! I don’t think Mikael even landed a clean shot. Wow. What a performance.”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Flawless execution from José Meléndez! That’s how you make a statement to get back in the win column!”
[The crowd explodes into cheers and Meléndez is swarmed by his corner crew in celebration. The medical staff swarm in the octagon and immediately tend to Ekström for a while before helping him to his feet. After the Ringside Physicians finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]
MIKE DEMPSEY: “Ladies and gentlemen, referee Colin Davenport has called for a stop in this fight at four minutes forty seconds in the very first round, declaring your winner by technical knockout, José “Gas Tank” Meléndez!”
[The crowd cheers once again as Meléndez has his hand raised in victory. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight while the commentators recap.]

Meyers broke on the scene on the first DRIP episode, and quickly etched his name in the Lightweight rankings with a gritty win at Boss Fight XXXIII. The future of MMA is in good hands with exciting prospects such as Benji.”
JASON JACKSON: “I love to see it. I have a few favorites when it comes to these young cats making their way onto the scene. I won’t say who, because I’m an unbiased journalist. Welcome to the boneyard though, Bony Stark. I have a feeling you’ll do great things.”
MIKE DEMPSEY: “Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest is scheduled for three rounds in the Union Grand Prix Cruiserweight Division! [Alfie O’Shea looks confident in his corner, flashing his signature gapped smile toward his opponent.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Another graduate from DRIP, Alfie O’Shea has the potential to be a thrilling fighter for the Cruiserweight Division. He’s a solid striker and shows the willingness to throw caution to the wind and just swang and bang. Of course, there’s a lot of risk with that, but he’s as much of an entertainer as he is a competitor.”
JASON JACKSON: “As long as he does better than his boy Ekström because SHEEEEESH. That was ugly. I dig the entertainers though. I was one myself. But you can’t let that get in the way of your actual skill and you gotta be able to back those antics up. We’re gonna see here tonight if Alfie is about that life, or if he’s shark bait like his boy the viking. ”
MIKE DEMPSEY: “And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Grappler holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 7-1. He stands 5’11”, and weighing in at 220 pounds. [Reggie James glares at his opponent from the opposite corner.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Reggie James enters the octagon tonight looking to extend his current win streak to three consecutive fights. He continues to rack up wins with a masterful and methodical grappling approach that gives so many people big problems. However, James may need a win against a big name or a spectacular finish here to really solidify himself to be a title contender.”
JASON JACKSON: “I like Reggie. He’s got some hands but his Submission game is his real strength. These scrapyard boys are game, and Alfie O’Shea is in for a real test here because like you said… Reggie James needs something big to propel him up those rankings. He needs to go out here and dominate this fight and if he does? Who knows? Maybe he sees a title shot in the future. If he loses here tonight though? Well let’s just say he stands to lose more than O’Shea. That’s for sure. Let’s see how it plays out though.”

ROUND ONE

[The opening bell sounds and both Reggie James and Alfie O’Shea touch gloves in the middle of the cage. As they separate they start studying each other looking for holes in each other’s defenses. James smirks and shoots for a double leg takedown! The sudden nature of the attack surprises Alfie as James takes O’Shea out of his feet. O’Shea scrambles and gets James into his guard.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Reggie James starts things out with a sneaky double leg right away and takes Alfie off guard. This is where Reggie James shines brightest, so Alfie shouldn’t be too surprised.”
JASON JACKSON: “Facts, Reggie is looking to take your limbs home with him to put on the mantle. He wants all the smoke when it comes to the grappling game. Alfie should’ve been prepared for an early shot. I would’ve trained my fighter to look for that and have the knee or the uppercut counter spring loaded and ready..”
[James BJJ knowledge is paying dividends here, but O’Shea stifles any and all attacks from James. Sensing James getting tired from just trying to get something going, O’Shea counters and tries to roll on the ground, a move that Reggie James manages to block the reversal. This sequence continues as James tries to advance his position, but O’Shea blocks him; until Alfie manages to capitalize and reverses Reggie James!]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “It looks like Alfie O’Shea knows his way around a grappling exchange as well. The two are playing Jiu Jitsu chess here as they both wait for their opponent to make a mistake and James does! Look at that!”
JASON JACKSON: “O’Shea with a slick sweep, and he’s now in a dominant position. New kid on the block is nice with it. Cherry, boys.”
[Alfie O’Shea is now in half guard and trying to advance his position. Yet, every time Alfie moves, James manages to block him or cut him off. There’s not much action and the crowd here is getting a bit desperate, something the referee also seems to be feeling as he gets close to both fighters and stands them up due to lack of activity.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Good decision here, what do you think JJ? We know you’re real judgmental about the refs stepping in and not letting guys grapple it out.”
JASON JACKSON: “Nah, I agree with this one, yeah? The action had stalled out. Neither were attacking or progressing. Stand them up. It’s a stalemate. Good call Archie.”
[Once on the feet, Archie Driscoll signals for the fight to continue, and Reggie James looks for angles as he throws a few jabs that get countered by Alfie O’Shea’s punches. A great one-two-three combo from O’Shea lands flush on James’ face. As Reggie reels backward, Alfie senses the fight swinging his way and he starts stalking his opponent.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Oh! Nice combo by Alfie right away after that stoppage. He’s going after Reggie James now! Reggie seems to be on the back pedal!”
JASON JACKSON: “I think that shot from O’Shea sent alarm bells ringing through James’ head. Reggie is on his bike and he’s getting the hell out of dodge.”
[Reggie James circles out of danger and not wanting to keep this fight on the feet, he shoots once more and takes Alfie O’Shea hard to the mat. This time around, Reggie James wastes no time and quickly gets in position for a KNEEBAR!]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Reggie James is FIRED up after that shot. He quickly shoots back in and absolutely SLAMS O’Shea to the canvas with authority.”
JASON JACKSON: “And he wastes no time going for that leg lock! Look at that! Ooooh Kneebar! Newcomer Alfie O’Shea is in real trouble here!”
[Alfie rolls on the ground trying to get free, but James keeps the hold locked. O’Shea’s face shows the pain he’s in, yet he still battles and throws a few loose kicks that seem to land on James’ hands breaking his grip and allowing O’Shea to escape back to his feet and away from James who simply invites him to his guard.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Aaaaaand he’s free! O’Shea is back on his feet and this fight continues. Strong showing here by the newcomer early on.”
JASON JACKSON: “Yeah, he’s doing a hell of a lot better than Mikael Ekström did. That’s for sure. Reggie is telling him to come on back down but O’Shea shakes his head and tells him to get up.”
[The referee stops the action to allow Reggie James to get back on his feet. Once there the crowd cheers the move and both fighters get back into the center of the cage. O’Shea throws a stiff jab, but James ducks under it and attempts a sweep single that catches Alfie off-guard and allows James to grab O’Shea’s far ankle bringing him back to the mat.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Up, and back down. A wrestling clinic being put on here by Reggie James, JJ. Alfie O’Shea doesn’t even have time to breathe before Reggie brings him back down to his world.“
JASON JACKSON: “Both of these guys have been on their A-Game out of the gate, and Alfie is hanging with Reggie pretty well, but James’ wrestling is the deciding factor as we come down the final stretch of the first round.”
[James goes back to the well and tries a kneebar, but this was to bait some kicks from O’Shea and allow James to keep the fight on the ground, right where he wants it to be. Reggie James manages to advance to half guard, trying to get to side mount, but Alfie wraps his legs around Reggie James’ leg preventing him from moving. James is breathing heavily and the action seemingly stopped, which prompted the referee to stand both fighters back up.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Another stand up here, I feel like that one was a little premature though.”
JASON JACKSON: “That is a wack one. The action stalled for a moment, but he wasn’t stuck in the guard. He had half guard and could’ve easily advanced after he caught a breath. There’s nothing wrong with that either. If you’re tired, but you are dominant enough to get a clinch, or get control on the ground and get a breather? You should be allowed that. The action wasn’t stalled for a minute. Maybe fifteen seconds. Bad call.”
[After a few punches and kicks get thrown, James once again takes Alfie down with a double leg takedown! But within the same motion, Alfie manages to sweep James and reverse position, getting into open guard over James. O’Shea tries to advance his position while throwing some weak strikes to fend off any potential sub attempts by James; this is something Reggie takes advantage of and attempts a triangle from Bottom!]
JASON JACKSON: “Another takedown. He’s relentless. No wonder he’s tired. My man has been straight forward like a freight train all night.”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Nice sweep by Alfie to get top position and look to open him up with som st– ”
JASON JACKSON: “TRIANGLE! He’s got him caught in the– nope, he slips out.”
[O’Shea slips out of that, but James quickly chains it into an armbar attempt! O’Shea battles against the odds and also slips out of the armbar, finally getting back to his feet. The referee allows James to get back to his feet and quickly James tries to get the fight back to the mat, but Alfie is now well prepared for James’ tactics and manages to sprawl and stay on his feet. Sensing the fight is slipping away from him, James steps back trying to regain some breath.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “What skill by O’Shea to weather the storm here and get out of not one, but two chained submission attempts and get back on his feet.“
JASON JACKSON: “Not only that, but he’s tired of being down there, Bodie. Look at that! Some takedown defense. Imagine that! Not letting him take you down. Novel concept right?”
[O’Shea throws a big hook that James just barely manages to avoid, James counters with a jab; but that jab was just a setup as James once again shoots and takes Alfie to the ground. The round finishes with James securing a kneebar just as the horn sounded.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “And again, it’s like Reggie James is stuck on repeat. Back down, back to the Kneebar. That one looked tight though. If he’d had another thirty, or fourty five seconds he might’ve finished that.”
JASON JACKSON: “He didn’t though, and Alfie lives on to see round two. If I’m O’Shea’s corner, I’d be telling him he HAS to defend that takedown. Knees, uppercuts, sprawl, do what you have to do to keep this on the feet and get some offense in because right now Reggie is dominating this fight. 10-9 Reggie James.”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Agreed.”

[The second round starts right where the first one ended, even with James being visibly tired; he’s still shooting for takedowns and GETTING THEM! Even trapped in full guard, James BJJ makes him dangerous and he wastes no time letting Alfie know about it, getting to a leg lock, and putting the fear of god in Alfie’s mind as he scrambles to get away from the hold.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Reggie James keeps casting that net out there with the legs, eventually he’s gonna catch one.”
JASON JACKSON: “If Alfie doesn’t do something soon he definitely will catch one eventually. Reggie is not playing out here. He’s looking to get this shit closed out quick and decisively so he can hit the afterparty.”
[James continues moving, knowing that any lapses in action might prompt the referee to step in and step them up. He gets to full mount and from there unleashes a couple of good punches; before Alfie traps him back. Reggie James managed to put his knee on O’Shea’s chest looking for a GOGOPLATA!]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Reggie James said ‘If I can’t submit you with your legs, Imma use my legs to submit you then!’ Rocka Reggie is putting on a masterclass in BJJ.”
[The submission maneuver is tight, so tight that Alfie’s mouth is beginning to swell. The referee gets really close to the action, knowing full well this might be the end of the fight; but Alfie shows the heart of a warrior as he rolls and makes James lose his balance breaking the hold and allowing Alfie to get on top.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “You can call Alfie O’Shea Steve McQueen because that was a Great Escape! And now he’s working to get control.”
JASON JACKSON: “That was a good one. 10 outta 10 on the reference. One thing you can say about this new kid is he’s got heart. There’s no quit in him.”
[Both fighters are scrambling for positioning on the ground; they jock back and forth until James’ superior ground game wins him full mount and isolates Alfie’s arm for an armbar! Yet, Alfie seemed prepared and pulled himself out of the submission hold; getting back to his feet.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “I think it’s in the best interest of O’Shea to keep this fight standing at this point. Rocka Reggie is just snatching any limb that’s out there in no man’s land.”
JASON JACKSON: “This fight is going to go one of two ways. Either Alfie is going to start defending these takedowns and do some work on the feet to dominate the rest of this round and the third. OR, he’s going to get submitted. Because Reggie is not relenting, and Alfie looks like the relentless assault is beginning to be a little too much to keep up with.”
[Alfie moves away from James, keeping enough of a distance from his opponent as possible to avoid any sort of takedown attempt. Yet, he wasn’t counting on James pulling an Imanari Roll and securing a foot lock that almost brought Alfie down. With that small loss, James is now on the ground while his opponent is standing. James flails his legs trying to keep O’Shea away from him, but Alfie steps away from any kick that might seem dangerous. After minutes of this playing out, Archie Driscoll had enough and stood James back up.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “That was un…be…lievable! Reggie James almost caught Alfie O’Shea slipping with that Imanari roll. Reggie is pulling out all the tricks, showing no respect for O’Shea’s grappling ability.”
JASON JACKSON: “I think O’Shea was able to keep up in the beginning, and that made Reggie go “oh yeah? Keep up with this.” and he dialed it up to eleven here for the fans. What a skilled showing by Reggie James.”
[Wasting no time at all, James brings Alfie back to the mat and rapidly gets to half guard, launching a couple of punches that allowed him to get to Side mount; isolating Alfie’s left arm and securing a deep armbar that forced Alfie O’Shea to tap!]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “OOH! There’s the tap! Just like that Reggie James just swarms over Alfie O’Shea, isolates the arm and ends this in the second frame. Reggie James made that look too easy, he flows like water out there and is just on a completely different level than any other Cruiserweight out there right now.”
JASON JACKSON: “I think he was toying with him since midway through the first. What an absolute masterpiece of a performance by Reggie. It’s back to the drawing board for O’Shea but he had some moments of potential greatness during this fight. He just needs to work on his game a bit more and refine it.”
[The crowd explodes into cheers and James is swarmed by his corner crew in celebration. Doctors tend to O’Shea for a while before helping him to his feet. After doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]
MIKE DEMPSEY: “Ladies and gentlemen, referee Archie Driscoll has called for a stop in this fight at three minutes sixteen seconds in the second round, declaring your winner by submission, “Rocka” Reggie James!”
[The crowd cheers once again as James has his hand raised in victory. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight while the commentators recap.]

BODIE SULLIVAN: “And we are back, ladies and gentlemen! Before we head into the featured undercard bout, we have to acknowledge the Everest Featherweight Champion CC Flynn in the house! Flynn has been one of the hottest prospects as of late, making noise inside and out of the octagon. She’ll be returning to Everest for season two to defend her crown, and also it’s reported that she’ll be moonlighting in Ryujin FC.”
JASON JACKSON:“Don’t say moonlighting, Bodie. That makes her sound like a lady of the night.”
BODIE SULLIVAN:“A what?”
JASON JACKSON:“A lady of t– (whispers) A prostitute. (normal) Ahem, either way, I like this kid. When the “lambs” thing was going on I thought it was stupid as fuck and that Blue Barerra was annoying and talked a bigger game than she brought in the cage but CC is a G. She can back up the shit talk, from what we’ve seen, and she’s got a lot of eyes on her and her brand. I don’t know about barking up that Roscoe tree though. She’s a little bold for that one. That man carries thunder in his hands. I know. I’ve fought him and trained with him. You think you know, but you have no idea until you get in there and get clipped by one. [Isabel Azevedo raises her fists in her corner. She seems confident.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “And now folks we enter the featured undercard bout, our first of two Bantamweight contests scheduled for tonight. As we mentioned earlier, Isabel Azevedo has progressed exponentially as an all-round MMA fighter. The proof was evident in her last fight which ended in a knockout for Izzy. She knows what she’s up against tonight, and knows she may not be able to go toe-to-toe with Lena Lyons, who is a much more experienced striker, but she’s confident that she can earn her respect in that phase of the fight game. As she said during the press conference, every fight starts on the feet, she just has to do enough to keep herself competitive and allow herself to set traps to bring the fight to the ground.”
JASON JACKSON: “That’s true, and we’ve seen she has some fight stopping power in those mitts to accompany that killer Jiu Jitsu game she brings to the table. I’m super excited for this fight. In a way, it could be a passing of the torch here if she’s able to beat a seasoned Vet like Lena. But I know Thugga isn’t going to make it easy. Izzy is going to have to work hard for this one. ”
MIKE DEMPSEY: “And her opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Kickboxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 16-11. She stands 5’5”, and weighing in at 135 pounds. She is from Queens, New York, fighting out of Paris Combat, presenting the former Union Grand Prix Bantamweight Title Challenger and the number two ranked Bantamweight Contender in the World, Lena “Thugga” Lyons!”
[Lena Lyons glares at her opponent from the opposite corner.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “And speaking of all-round fighters, let’s give credit where it’s due for Lena Lyons. Thugga has the momentum of a three-fight win streak, but most notably she scored her first submission win in Union GP in her last fight against Yasmine Vermeulen. JJ, the old adage of MMA is that styles make fights. These two have the arsenal to make this a barn burner no matter where the fight goes.
JASON JACKSON: “Styles definitely do change the dynamic of fights Bodie. This is the good ol’ Striker Vs Grappler Scenario. It’s all about who can use their skill set to keep the fight in THEIR realm. Because that’s the key to victory. Control, control, control. And that doesn’t necessarily mean offensive pressure and full on aggression… although it helps. It means showing these judges that you are in control of the fight and you are playing chess while your opponent is playing checkers. I think Lena’s experience gives her a slight edge in being able to control a fight and that is the variable that could very well have her walking out of here with a W. Will Izzy keep her momentum and get a win over a seasoned veteran like Lena Lyons? Or will thugga do the damn thing once again? Let’s find out.”

ROUND ONE

[The bell announces the first round and both fighters begin to close the distance. Azevedo steps forward and without warning, Lena Lyons catches her with an uppercut to the face! Azevedo gets rocked, but she fires right back with a shattering straight right hand. Lyons goes with a looping right hand while Azevedo jumps back and jabs. That one lands clean but Azevedo seems unaffected, countering with a few punches of her own.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Great exchange to open up the fight. Azevedo eats some big shots, but powers through it and isn’t afraid to answer back. That’s what she was talking about when she said she needs to ‘gain her respect’ in the striking department. Stay smart and don’t get careless or force situations that aren’t there.”
JASON JACKSON: “Yeah, you certainly have to earn your respect when it comes to striking. A lot of folks will just walk you down if they know you’re a grappler. Especially a Jiu Jitsu practitioner and not a wrestler. Because they feel like they don’t have to worry about anything except for you pulling guard. Izzy here is proving that she brings much more to the table and her striking is to be respected or you pay the price. Plain and simple.”
[Lena Lyons fakes a move and launches a liver kick, but Azevedo blocks and pushes her opponent back. With the added distance, Isabel Azevedo shoots for a double leg takedown and she hits it! Lena Lyons is taken off her feet, but she manages to pull Azevedo into her guard. Azevedo is in closed guard over Lyons and it seems both fighters are taking this moment to rest and strategize. After a verbal warning, referee Jordan Ripley has seen enough passivity on the ground and decides to stand up the fighters.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Nice setup for the takedown, but Azevedo gets nothing out of it. We talk about Izzy having a sneaky addition of striking to her offense, but we cannot forget that Lena Lyons has that sneaky ground game as well.”
JASON JACKSON: “It comes with the time put into the sport. It comes with experience. I used to be a one dimensional striker too and then I started working with Cass on my Jitz, and it opened a lot of doors for me. Not only did it reduce the panic I felt when I was taken down, but it gave me more confidence to do the taking down, and to work wherever the fight took me. I think Lena has that ability as well and it comes from the experience she has in the cage.”
[Both fighters have climbed to their feet and they continue the fight standing. Azevedo moves backward and Lena tries to bait her in with some trash talk. Lyons throws a couple of jabs and then a big hook but Azevedo blocks and tries to circle around her opponent, looking for better angles. Lyons tries catching Izzy with a low kick, but it gets checked and Azevedo counters with a nice one-two quick combo. Lyons staggers back and Azevedo wants to finish this and continues launching bombs!]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “OH! Lena Lyons got clipped there and she’s hurt!”
JASON JACKSON: “That’s what I mean. Lena is out here talking shit and not respecting the standup for Izzy Azevedo and she just paid for it, big time. I think that’s a big issue with seasoned fighters when fighting these up and comers. They think they are untouchable, but Lena just found out she’s definitely not.”
[Lyons goes to the body with some tentative punches to fend off her opponent. Azevedo launches a couple of jabs that are answered by Lyons with a stiff cross and we got an exciting exchange unfolding! You can hear the excitement from the crowd as they continue their wild exchange. Both fighters are connecting and this could be ending soon if either lands a lucky punch! Lyons gets rocked with a crushing shot to the body and responds with a couple hooks back to Izzy’s ribs.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “We got ourselves a firefight, JJ! Don’t blink, this could be over soon!”
JASON JACKSON: “FULL SEND! They are trading here in the middle of the cage and I have to tell you, for a grappler? Izzy is holding her own and this exchange is about as evenly matched as it can be. Both landing, both fluid, neither willing to back down. What a fight.”
[A shovel hook and inside leg kick by Lena Lyons goes nowhere, leaving her open for Azevedo to bring the fight back down to the ground with a perfectly timed takedown. Azevedo is in open guard over Lyons and seems to be cooling the fight down. She tries to better her position on the ground and launches a couple of elbows against Lyons’ ribs. Thugga tries to close her guard but can’t secure it. Azevedo launches a few punches to Lyons to keep the action alive. Izzy then swivels around and tries to secure a leg lock, but Lena kicks her legs to break free.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Oooh great awareness from Lena Lyons. Izzy looked like she was trying to set up a heel hook, but Lena was quick to escape.”
JASON JACKSON: “It was a little telegraphed. A little desperate. Azevedo just needs to calm down and take her time. Let the finish come to you, and stop chasing it. It’s only the first round. You have plenty of time left.”
[Both fighters are breathing heavy, but Izzy continues to push to pace and moves to full mount. Azevedo starts to isolate an arm and goes for an armbar, but Lena fights her off. However, Azevedo is determined and begins dropping some hammerfists to the body, and this allows her to throw her leg over and rolls it over to secure the armbar! You can see the pain reflected in Lyons’ eyes as Azevedo wrenches back as far as she can! Azevedo has the submission secured but Lena Lyons refuses to tap! Jordan Ripley makes the tough decision and jumps in to break the lock and call off the fight!]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Oooh woooooow! I didn’t see a tap! Lena Lyons did not tap, but Jordan Ripley stepped in and made the executive decision to stop the fight. JJ, I know many fighters are too tough for their own good sometimes, and officials are there to prevent any unnecessary damage, but there was less than ten seconds left in the round. That’s a tough call to make, especially given how competitive the fight was up to that point.”
JASON JACKSON: “Uh… what? That’s… That’s not how the rules of unified MMA work. A ref can step in and stop the fight if you’re getting TKO’d and absorbing too much damage from strikes or turn your back. They can stop the fight if a fighter goes unconscious as well as the result of a choke. They CANNOT stop the fight because someone refuses to tap, that is unless he physically sees her arm break. That was a poor call if he didn’t, and will likely be overturned by the commission. Unless Lena’s corner threw in the towel, that ref had no authority to do that. This is going to be a fuckin’ disaster.”
[The crowd roars with mixed reactions as Azevedo heads to her corner, restraining any emotions. The Ringside Physicians swarm into the octagon, and a visibly disgruntled Lena Lyons brushes them off and refuses any treatment. A few tense moments pass by before everyone files out of the cage and both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

BODIE SULLIVAN: “Welcome back folks. We are now entering the Championship block of the evening as we prepare ourselves for the Middleweight Championship Co-Main Event! As you can see, we have the 2021 Hall of Famer Byron McCall in the fucking house tonight! Folks, I have some news to drop on you all right here, right now. Byron McCall isn’t just here to enjoy the fights, but I have word from the top brass of Union GP that Byron McCall is back! I didn’t stutter, Byron McCall is coming out of retirement for another run!”
JASON JACKSON:“I guess Isaac Cohen was right. He predicted we’d have another legend getting the itch and coming out of retirement and voila. The last we saw of “The Last” he was supposed to actually fight Zion Momo’a, if I remember correctly, who is actually McCall’s brother-in-law. Interesting, right? But of course, because something is in the water around here, Byron found out his wife Tatum was pregnant and he took a sabbatical. I knew he’d be back eventually though. It’s like heroin. Hard to quit once you get that first hit. I’m interested to see who’s on deck for him though. Welcome back, Uce.”

[The arena lights die down for a brief moment as the chords of “Angels of Death” by Doyle D. Donehoo blare throughout the P.A. system, then flicker between blue and white as “The Primarch” Robert Guilliman strides out of the entrance. The crowd grows with cheers to show their adoration for the lethal competitor. Guilliman makes his way down the aisle with members of the Real Killas camp following close behind.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Making his way to the octagon is a man that is looking to reclaim the glory he once basked in for so long. Robert Guilliman is one of the most decorated fighters in Union GP history but has been on a skid that has been very uncharacteristic as of late. The Primarch has won only one of his last four fights, and basically fell into this opportunity by default. However, The Primarch is not one to take any situation lightly, and knows that this could very well be his last chance at Championship glory.”
JASON JACKSON: “He fell into this position because Zion Momo’a was a man of his word and left middleweight. We all know that would be the fight happening here tonight if Zion hadn’t stuck his foot in his mouth and made that bet. Listen, I was on the Rob hype train at one point. The man was undeniably great. But something happened and he just doesn’t have it like that anymore. I think a loss here tonight could be the end of the road, to be honest. I hate to say it. I mean, he looks focused.. But I guess we’ll see if he’s worked his shit out or if he’s done. Plain and simple.”
[Guilliman marches down the aisle decidedly, with a heavy air of concentration about him, then salutes solemnly to the audience and staff. He finally reaches the cageside, where he strips down and gets checked by the fight official. Once he’s been cleared, he enters the cage and starts a small warm-up routine.]

[The crowd erupts again as “In the Air Tonight” By Phil Collins begins to play throughout the arena, and Travis Decker steps out of the tunnel, the spotlight gleaming off the Middleweight Title around his waist. He looks ready for war as he marches toward the cage with his team. He doesn’t acknowledge the fans, or anyone else, except for his opponent, which his eyes are glued on the entire time.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “And here he is, the Chicago native Travis Decker! You know, JJ, we keep hammering at the narrative of Decker’s journey to becoming the Middleweight Champion, but I will be the first to admit that it is past due to focus on the newest chapter of his career. Decker has beaten the likes of Delaney Donovan and finally avenged the two losses to Zion Momo’a, and now he has the chance tonight to defeat the man who has been synonymous with the 185-pound class. Should he walk out tonight and earn his third successful title defense, does Travis Decker carry the designation as the Middleweight GOAT?”
JASON JACKSON: “That’s a tough one. GOAT? I’m not so sure. Let’s look at the facts. He’s got a 9-5 record, which isn’t the best in the world. He never got a win back on Aries Reed, he’s 1-2 against Zion, and the only other notable names he’s beaten besides Delaney are Brendan and Nigel. I mean Simon Bishop, Agustin Gates, Jeremiah Ford? I just haven’t seen enough to say he’s the middleweight GOAT. Middleweight king? Yes. Dedicated and improved fighter? Absolutely. He’s a great representation of the sport and a respectable champion but I can’t agree on the GOAT thing. However tonight, he gets to add another big name to that resume if he can get a win and THAT might make that narrative more negotiable. To some. To some. I’m still not convinced yet. Nothing against Decker, it’s just.. It’s just not there for me yet. ”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “That’s fair. I guess there’s a different perspective up there on top of Mount Olympus where you and the other MMA Gods reside.”
[Decker makes it to cageside where he strips down to his trunks and gives each of his cornermen one last hug before turning to the official. Once he gets inspected and cleared, Decker looks up and points to the heavens before racing up the steps. One of his coaches pours some water on the mat as he settles in his corner to wipe his feet and gain a little added grip. Decker remains dialed in as he awaits the official introductions.]

JASON JACKSON: “Yeah, I don’t think it’s going to go twenty five minutes, Uce. Someone is getting kicked in the head. I can feel it in my soul. ”
[The referee steps to the center of the cage and motions for both fighters to meet. With the announcer standing behind, holding the microphone, referee Bruno Alves gives one final pep talk.]
BRUNO ALVES: “Alright fighters, we’ve gone through the rules in the back. Protect yourself at all times, follow my instructions, touch gloves and let’s have a clean fight.”
[Without much hesitation, both fighters touch gloves and backpedal to their corners. Bruno Alves checks off with each fighter one last time and signals for the bell!]

ROUND ONE

[Decker and Guilliman move forward as the bell signals the beginning of the fight. Guilliman looks for angles as he throws a few jabs that are countered by Travis Decker’s punches but neither man lands anything significant. Guilliman connects with a low kick to maintain his range before the two size each other up again in the center of the cage.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Little feeling out, dialing in the range and being very cautious. Both of these guys know each other like the back of their hand and what the other is capable of.”
JASON JACKSON: “Yeah, I think both of them are wary of being kicked in the fuckin’ head, to be honest uce. Both of them have that fight ending head kick ability. There’s going to be a bit of timidness until someone finds that groove. It could take the whole fight. They might never find that groove.”
[Guilliman studies his opponent looking for a hole in his defense before he feints a move and launches a liver kick! Decker blocks the kick then pushes his opponent back. Decker and Guilliman square up and engage in a wild exchange of punches! Guilliman is getting the best of the exchange as he lands a few more blows. Decker rallies back with a one-two combo that connects clean. Decker sees an opening and nails Guilliman with a big right hook that causes him to fumble back on his heels.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “And now here we go! Big shots landing!”
JASON JACKSON: “For a minute I thought Primarch was getting the better of that exchange and then BOP! Decker takes over with a nasty right hook that stumbles Guilliman. Rob is on the retreat now but he’s still firing back. That’s heart. On full display.”
[Guilliman fires off a bunch of leg kicks that Decker checks, but he’s at least able to keep some distance to recuperate. Slowly he begins working behind the jab, tagging Decker in the process. Guilliman launches another low kick, but Decker checks it and counters with a vicious head kick! Guilliman is dazed long enough for Decker to follow up with a flurry of punches to the body. Guilliman fires back but both fighters are wildly missing most of their strikes. Guilliman tries to catch Decker off guard with one of his signature head kicks, but Decker manages to dodge it and the momentum causes Guilliman to slip and fall to the mat.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Decker is finding a nice rhythm now and the big miss from Guilliman has got him in a very vulnerable position.”
JASON JACKSON: “I told you. It would be a feeling out process until one or both of them started landing shots and finding their timing and range. It seems like Decker has found both of these things, and he’s using it to make Robert Guilliman look silly.”
[Guilliman tries to cautiously get back to his feet, but every time he does, Decker gestures like he’s going to rush in. After a handful of attempts, Decker eventually backs off and allows Guilliman to stand up. Back on his feet, Guilliman goes to the body, but Decker just gets grazed with the hook. Decker launches his leg and Guilliman covers up for a middle kick, but Decker nearly knocks Guilliman’s head off his shoulders with a high kick.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Woooah, the wind off that kick blew my hair back!”
JASON JACKSON: “That was a BRUTAL KI– Wait a minute. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but… you don’t have any hair.“
BODIE SULLIVAN & JASON JACKSON: [Awkward silence that slowly turns into the two of them doing their best to contain their laughter.]
[Guilliman launches a furious low kick in retaliation, but Decker blocks it with ease. An inside leg kick from Guilliman goes awry and Decker tries to get the upper hand with a surprise roundhouse punch that nearly sends Guilliman into orbit! Guilliman’s left eye is instantly starting to swell but Decker isn’t letting him off easily. A solid middle kick hammers Guilliman’s ribs before the two start exchanging blows back and forth. Decker mixes in some leg kicks while protecting himself from Guilliman’s attempts. Decker lands a big punch that rocks Guilliman then follows up with another head kick just before the horn! The fighters shake hands as they head back to their corners, with Decker feeling real good while Guilliman stumbles to stay upright.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “A lopsided first round tipping to the reigning champion Travis Decker. It seemed like once he dialed in his range, the strikes started coming in bunches. Guilliman is already getting looked at by the doctors on that eye.”
JASON JACKSON: “Yeah, I think I just heard Robert’s corner telling him that they are going to stop it if he keeps absorbing this amount of punishment. Honestly, I feel it’s justified. I know he can come back and all it takes is one kick, but at this late in his career Gulliman can’t keep getting beat down like this. Someone eventually has to step in and tell this guy “enough” right? Anyways, Round one, all Decker. I’d even say 10-8.”

ROUND TWO

[The demeanor of both fighters are polar opposites as round two begins. Decker is light and quick on his feet while Guilliman is flat footed. Guilliman follows Decker only to get counter punched in a big way. Decker tries a middle kick but Guilliman blocks it with his forearm and now the two exchange wildly, with Decker connecting with a few more significant punches. Guilliman fakes a punch and shows some good footwork moving aside to reassess his gameplan.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Robert Guilliman is getting outclassed right now by Decker. He needs to start setting up his offense and not just force it and mail it in.”
JASON JACKSON: “I hate to say it, but I think we are seeing the end of Robert Guilliman. Not only does he not look like he belongs in there with the CHAMPION, I’d be hard pressed to say he belongs in there at all anymore, PERIOD. This looks like an episode of Bully Beatdown. You remember that show?”
[Guilliman moves forward and launches a low kick. Decker blocks it and counters back, clipping The Primarch with an incredible haymaker! Guilliman’s head snaps back violently and Decker rushes in to capitalize but has to divert his direction as Guilliman swings his leg for a big head kick. Guilliman throws a low kick followed by a right hand that misses their mark, and Decker counters with a stinging one-two combo right on the chin. Guilliman stumbles back and looks to be an easy target for Decker now.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Travis Decker continues to outpace Robert Guilliman. He’s staying patient, developing a great counter game and not just throwing one counter, but combinations that stifles The Primarch’s chances of building any sort of offense.”
JASON JACKSON: “I’d stop this fight. If I was his coach I’d throw in the towel. This is difficult to even watch.”
[Guilliman tries to defend himself with some feel-out punches, but Decker is dialed in and dodges the strikes and counters back with a nice exchange. Out of nowhere Guilliman launches a flying knee out of desperation, but Decker blocks it with his arms and moves laterally to land a flurry of thundering body shots and then some tentative punches before the two break off and size each other up in the center of the octagon. Both fighters circle around looking for angles then Guilliman launches a big spinning back kick that connects to Decker’s ribs. The thud of the impact echoes throughout the building as Decker hunkers over in obvious pain. Guilliman tries to capitalize, but he looks to be gassing out and a half-hearted right hand gets deflected as Decker circles out.]
JASON JACKSON: “OH SHIT! BIG BODY KICK BY GUILLIMAN JUST AS I WAS TALKING SHIT!”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Guilliman is resorting to some trickery and getting mixed results. Nice kick to the body but he looks like he doesn’t have the energy to capitalize on it.”
JASON JACKSON: “Nah, he looks like he’s running on empty already. Listen, I’d fight Robert Guilliman tomorrow, and I promise you he’d already been napping by the middle of the last round. “
[Guilliman takes a few seconds to recover his breath, allowing Decker to fully recover from the body kick. A calf kick from Guilliman gets checked but he still tries to follow it up by shooting a takedown. Decker reads it well and rocks Guilliman with a knee that nearly ends the fight right there. Guilliman tries to stagger out of range, but Decker pushes forward to try and finish the fight. Decker aggressively swings with some wild punches and after a few connects, Guilliman is knocked down to the mat! Guilliman is hurt here but is still intelligently defending himself by keeping his feet up, looking for an upkick.]
JASON JACKSON: “JENGA! Tower Primarch collapses in that exchange!”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Down goes Primarch! I don’t think he really knows where he’s at right now, he’s running on pure instincts!”
JASON JACKSON: “I know where he’s going though. The retirement home. Assisted living. He’s on his last legs. Actually he’s on the mat but you get what I’m saying.”
[Decker is standing while Guilliman is on the ground on his back. Guilliman tries to stand up but Decker doesn’t allow him, insteading launching a kick that connects to Guilliman’s thigh. Decker quickly decides to step back and allow Guilliman to get back to his feet, knowing he’s got the clear advantage on the feet at this point. Robert Guilliman is on his feet again and throws a middle kick that misses wide, but it’s enough to gain him some distance to refocus.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Jason, I’m a little surprised Decker didn’t try to go to the ground and finish this one off. He clearly had Guilliman caught in the crossfire.”
JASON JACKSON: “Nah. He wants to starch this man. He wants to knock him slick the fuck out. I don’t blame him. I said I wanted this Decker back and this man has come in and DELIVERED.”
[Guilliman goes with a looping right hand while Decker jumps back and jabs. Guilliman gets wobbled and Decker runs to capitalize with a bunch of jabs and crosses. Guilliman looks for angles as he throws a few jabs that are countered by Decker’s punches and he’s on the receiving end of a great combo by Decker. Guilliman tries to land some leg kicks but Decker defends them with ease and counters back with another solid head kick. That punishing kick left Guilliman staggered, but Decker didn’t try to finish it off. Guilliman is taking out his mouthpiece to breathe better and simply trying to survive another round at this point. He looks for angles as he throws a few jabs that are countered by Decker’s punches and Guilliman is on the receiving end of another great combo by Decker.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Travis Decker looks like he’s just toying with Guilliman at this point. Out here just trying to entertain the masses.”
JASON JACKSON: “Nah, he’s out here to send a message. I said he wasn’t GOAT material and he’s like “ Oh yeah, JJ? Watch this shit. Hold my beer.” Okay. I see you Trav. I see you.
[An overhand right from Decker looked like it was capable of destroying a brick wall! Guilliman’s stops that one with his face but somehow he’s still standing! Guilliman looks rattled and Decker sees his opportunity to finish the fight and launches an aggressive flurry of punches! Guilliman is taking a brutal beating and falls to the mat! The ref could stop this fight at any moment, but with just seconds left in the round, Decker plays it safe and just launches one more kick to the thigh before the horn sounds. Guilliman gets back to his feet and heads to his corner with his face a bloody mess.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Woooow! Robert Guilliman hangs on for another round, but damn he’s busted up good. Ten minutes in, a possible fifteen to go. We’ve seen Guilliman take a ton of damage before, but he’s got to turn it around in the third frame.”
JASON JACKSON: “I wouldn’t let him answer the bell. I’d stop this fight in the corner. Look at him! Stick a fork in his ass because he’s done. There’s nobody home right now and he’s running on autopilot that has a course plotted to the center of the sun. Are you kidding me? They are going to let him continue? WOW. ”

[Guilliman’s cornermen did the best they could, but his face is still covered in blood. Decker on the other hand looks fresh and has plenty left in the tank. Decker looks for angles as he throws a few jabs that are countered by Guilliman’s punches. Decker leads with a jab that Guilliman evades but whiffs with a counter. Guilliman continues to bleed profusely that could be affecting his vision. A right hand from Decker makes Guilliman stumble back! In the blink of an eye, Decker launches a brutal head kick. You could hear the impact from the back seats! Travis Decker lands the knockout blow that he wanted as Guilliman lays lifeless on the canvas!]
JASON JACKSON: “BOOOOOOM! I TOLD YOU! LIGHT AS A FEATHER, STIFF AS A BOARD.”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “And this one is all over! Robert Guilliman gets sent into the shadow realm while Travis Decker retains the Middleweight Championship here in Boston, Massachusetts!”
JASON JACKSON: “His corner should be ashamed for not protecting that fighter. Awful job. Awful fuckin’ job RK. I hope he’s alright. He’s still out. Jesus christ. I can’t believe that kick though. Decker sending a message to everyone. He said “ I’m the real deal” with one big kick. Guilliman was known for that very thing, and now his legacy is going to be known for this. Going out like this. Because I doubt he’ll be back.”
[The crowd explodes into cheers and Decker is swarmed by his corner crew in celebration. Doctors tend to Guilliman for a while before helping him to his feet. After doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]
MIKE DEMPSEY: “Ladies and gentlemen, referee Bruno Alves has called for a stop in this fight at fifty-six seconds in the third round, declaring your winner by knockout, AND STILL the Union Grand Prix Middleweight Champion of the World, “Ripcord” Travis Decker!”
[The crowd cheers once again as Decker has his hand raised in victory and the title wrapped around his waist. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight while the commentators recap.]

[As we return from the final break in the action, the feed opens back up to the fans in attendance, awaiting for the Main Event. However, the camera angle transitions to an area in the front row where we see the Lightweight Champion, Delaney Donovan, zeroed in on the octagon.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Ladies and gentlemen, we are back exclusively here on the Battleground Network and we are just moments away from the Main Event of the evening. As you can see, we have a future Hall of Famer in attendance, the 2021 Fighter of the Year, the Kratos Combat Sports owner, the one and only Lightweight King Delaney Donovan! JJ, you have to believe that Double D is here not just to support his longtime ScrapYard teammate, but to also do some scouting. It’s no secret that Donovan has just three fights left on his contract and he’s laid out the map for a perfect sendoff. He’s mentioned defending the 155 pound title against Abbie Peterson, should she get past Erick Costa, he’s mentioned a rematch with Travis Decker, and he’s also mentioned a superfight dream match against either Gianna Howard or Dallas Meechan. You know, Delaney initially left The Ghost off his list while Dally was still the 135-pound Champ, but mentioned her during the press conference of his last fight. Do you think he’s targeting the Bantamweight Title to become the first fighter in Union GP to win three titles in three different divisions, or simply aiming for that big name, big money fight?”
JASON JACKSON: “Hey, why not, right? What better way to cement a legacy than by being reigning king of three different weight classes during the course of your career? I’d love to see all three of those fights. There are a lot more people I’d love to see him fight. But if he’s only got three left, then those three are some bangers and surely won’t disappoint. It’s just good to see him passing on the knowledge and guidance though. I’ve always been about that. Building up everyone around me. I mentored Carrick, who passed our collective knowledge and trade secrets on to Double D, and now he’s doing the same with Kratos Combat. Donning his gray fight kit trimmed in blue, Meechan hypes himself up by beating his chest while the crowd grows with cheers. He begins to make his way down the aisleway, soaking in the energy in the arena while several coaches from his camp follow closely behind.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Heading toward the octagon now is a man who is one of one, the Scottish Slugger Dallas Meechan! Ole Dally has been the face of the Bantamweight Division for most of its inception in Union GP. Up until his fight with Gianna Howard, he avenged the only loss he had not once but twice in a thrilling trilogy with Lauren Moore. Not only does Meechan have the chance to avenge another loss, but he can also enter the select class of becoming a two-time Union GP champion.”
JASON JACKSON: “Yeah, this is a huge fight for Dallas Meechan. I know that sounds silly given all the massive fights he’s had over his career but this one? It’s the chance to regain something that was lost. Not just the title, but the FIRE that he had before. I think Dallas comes into this fight with everything to prove, but also everything to lose. What happens if you’re stopped again? That’s going to wreak havoc on your psyche. He looks fired up and ready though. He looks like the Dally boy we all know and love. Will he be able to exorcize the ghost though? If anyone can, it’s Dallas Meechan. ”
[Meechan finally makes it to cageside, where he undresses down to his tights before getting inspected by the fight official. Once he’s been cleared, Meechan races up the steps and throws his arms out like an explosion upon entering the cage. He jogs over to his corner, shadow boxing along the way and playing up to the crowd.]

[The heavy licks of the lead guitar and drum fills of “Now That We’re Dead” by Metallica begin to fill the arena as the lights dim to near darkness. Spotlights scan the crowd while a brilliant white strobe light flashes on the main stage. Gianna Howard eventually makes her presence known to the audience, standing still with her head bobbing to the tempo of the song. Gianna takes a deep, heavy breath before making the walk to the octagon. Along the way, she tags a few out-stretched hands, and starts playing the air guitar as her level of excitement and anticipation begins to rise.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Making the final walkout for the night, here she is, the Union Grand Prix Bantamweight Champion, Gianna Howard! The Ghost has been on an absolute tear ever since she debuted in Everest MMA and became the inaugural Strawweight Champion. She carried that momentum when she was promoted to Union and shocked the world when she flattened Dallas Meechan to become the fourth Bantamweight Champion. Now she has the chance to go up 2-nil against the Bantamweight GOAT and truly solidify herself in the history books with a monumental first title defense. However, she is coming off a loss from another promotion, so you have to wonder how much that is going to factor into things.”
JASON JACKSON: “The EMF readings are off the chart, the temperature just dropped in here by like 12 degrees… Bodie… I think there’s a ghost in the room. Listen, this girl has impressed me since day one. She came out of nowhere, no one knows anything about her, and she just dominates anyone she is put up against. You’ve heard of the Ghost of Kyev? The Ghost of Tsushima? Well this is the ghost of UGP. She’s here to haunt your dreams and be a nightmare for any fighter that has the misfortune of having to fight her. She’s got her work cut out for her tonight though. Ghost or not, Dallas is a dangerous fighter and the first meeting went her way entirely but will the pressure of having to do that again be a weight on her shoulders this entire fight? Will she feel the need to perform and finish this man so much that it leads her to make her own mistakes? We have no way of knowing. I do know this though, the champ is coming off a fantastic camp and she told us that she is ready to go out there and give a repeat performance. ”
[Gianna finallys makes her way to cageside and turns to her coaches for one last pep talk. A quick hug from each one and then she disrobes down to her fight gear. She hands off her warmups to the nearest coach and turns back to the officials waiting to grease her face and inspect her from head-to-toe to ensure she’s fit for combat. She clearly isn’t bashful as she sings along with her walkout as she’s being inspected. Once she’s been cleared, a quick nod toward the official and she races up the steps. She uses her momentum to leap into the octagon, and stomps onto the mat in an almost heroic dramatic fashion. She then nonchalantly struts to her corner where she begins bouncing in place to stay loose and warm.]
MIKE DEMPSEY: “Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the Main Event of the evening! Sanctioned by the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission, our three judges scoring this contest at cageside are Cody Rose, Kelvin Owens, and Rogan Gaines, and when the action begins, our referee in charge in the octagon is Jack Gibbs. AND NOW, this is the moment you’ve all been waiting for! The following contest is scheduled for five rounds and it is for the Union Grand Prix Bantamweight Championship! Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Muay Thai Kickboxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 9-2. He stands 5’10”, and weighing in at 135 pounds. He is from Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, fighting out of The ScrapYard MMA, presenting the former Union Grand Prix Bantamweight Champion and the number one ranked Bantamweight Contender in the World, “Playboy” Dallas Meechan!”

She is from Las Vegas, Nevada, fighting out of Throne MMA, presenting the reigning, defending, undisputed Union Grand Prix Bantamweight Champion of the World, “The Ghost” Gianna Howard!”
[Gianna Howard raises her fists in her corner. She seems confident.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Here we are ladies and gentlemen. Twenty-five minutes to decide who walks out as the Bantamweight Champion should it be necessary. JJ, are you ready?!”
JASON JACKSON: “That’s rhetorical. You KNOW I’m ready. Are these FANS ready? That’s the real question. But shit, ready or not… HERE. WE. GO! ”

[Gianna Howard and Dallas Meechan touch gloves in the center to get this fight started. Howard and Meechan circle around the center of the cage, cautiously dialing in their range. Howard lands a big front kick that causes Meechan to stumble back. Meechan throws a low kick in retaliation but Howard checks it then the two start trading blows back and forth.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Big kick lands for Gianna Howard and it wakes Dallas Meechan up real quick!”
JASON JACKSON: “That front kick is nasty because it’s so quick and it’s like a foot uppercut. Sometimes you just don’t see it coming until it’s too late. Dally needs to shake that off though and set some feints up to get her guessing.”
[Neither fighter lands anything significant and both decide to back off and regroup. Howard closes the distance as she works behind the jab. Meechan gets tagged a couple times but he shows some excellent timing and blasts Howard with a big right hook! Gianna Howard is caught off balance and slips to the ground!]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Here comes the BOOM! Dallas Meechan with a massive right hand drops the champ!”
JASON JACKSON: “That’s Dallas Meechan right there. Textbook. He lets you get comfortable and then BANG! Clips you with a motherfucker punch that makes you question your entire existence. I can’t tell if she was rocked and that was a legitimate knockdown or if she slipped but either way she is in a not-so-great position now.”
[Meechan is standing while Howard is on the ground on her back. Meechan wants no part of this situation and backs off to allow Gianna to get back to her feet. Just as The Ghost climbs back up, Meechan starts to rush in, but Gianna stops The Playboy in his tracks with a stinging calf kick. Meechan circles out and the two take a few seconds to recover their breath.]
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Gianna Howard still has the proficiency to intelligently defend herself as both fighters look to regroup now.”
JASON JACKSON: “Great leg kick to keep him in check. Both fighters create some distance and are looking to catch a breather while analyzing potential openings. Both of these fighters are calculated, precise, and deadly in their striking… so one single shot could end the night. I think this causes a bit of trepidation in both.”
[Meechan goes on the offensive after the brief pause in the action with a body kick. Howard blocks the kick and counters back with a high kick. Meechan was covering up for a middle kick and eats the nasty head kick! Meechan attempts to shoot a takedown in a bit of desperation but Howard reads it well and delivers a powerful kick to his head! Meechan gets rocked but somehow manages to stagger out of range but reveals a swollen cut over his left eye.]
JASON JACKSON: “Beautiful counter to the takedown!”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Gianna Howard should try to push forward now and finish this fight! Dallas Meechan is in serious trouble!”
JASON JACKSON: “She’s gotta be careful though. Plenty of fights end by a fighter rushing in with punches and thinking the opponent is compromised only to get folded themselves for getting too eager. She needs to take her time and be cautious in putting this one away. Stay outside. Keep working that kick.”
[Gianna Howard keeps the pressure on Meechan as she cuts him off. She goes for a low kick, but then in the blink of an eye, she follows up with a high kick! Meechan gets smacked right in the mouth and he looks to be in a different dimension right now.]
JASON JACKSON: “BINGO.”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Dallas Meechan is hurt big time! He’s struggling to stay upright!”
JASON JACKSON: “He’s on dream street. He looks like he’s seen a ghost!”
[Howard and Meechan circle back around to the center of the cage. Howard launches a hook to the body and Meechan stops that one with his ribs! Meechan stumbles back and he’s an easy target! Howard lands another hook to the body and Meechan folds like a lawn chair. Howard follows it up with a crispy uppercut that pushes him into the fence. Howard doesn’t stop there and rains down with a flurry of punches that turns the lights out on Dallas Meechan! Meechan lays unconscious in a very awkward position as the referee pulls off Howard to put a stop to the fight.]
JASON JACKSON: “HOLYYYY SHIT! OOOOOOOH”
BODIE SULLIVAN: “Gianna Howard let’s ‘em go and this one is all over! Put that on a T-Shirt, JJ, what an amazing finish for The Ghost who makes a statement here in the Main Event tonight!”
JASON JACKSON: “She just dismantled that man. I did not see this fight going like this. I think maybe Dally was still feeling some type of way about the last meeting and was a bit too much in his head. He seemed timid and afraid to let his hands go and really get into a dog fight. Man. [The crowd explodes into cheers and Gianna is swarmed by her corner crew in celebration. Doctors tend to Meechan for a while before helping him to his feet. After doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]
MIKE DEMPSEY: “Ladies and gentlemen, referee Jack Gibbs has called for a stop in this fight at two minutes fifty-six seconds in the very first round, declaring your winner by knockout, AND STILL the undisputed Union Grand Prix Bantamweight Champion of the World, “The Ghost” Gianna Howard!”
[The crowd cheers once again as Howard has her hand raised in victory and the title wrapped around her waist. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight while the commentators recap.]
